ROCKFORD, ILL. - Playing as the #3-seed in the
NJCAA Region 4 Division III Tournament, the Madison College men's soccer team lost 2-0 to #2-seed Rock Valley College in a semifinal match Saturday. The loss ends the WolfPack's rare spring season - altered from the usual fall schedule by the Covid-19 Pandemic - with a 2-6-1 record.
The match was scoreless through the first 38 minutes, despite the WolfPack putting two shots on goal amid five shots total. The Golden Eagles, ranked #10 in the
NJCAA Division III Poll, were able to take advantage of a Madison College yellow card to score in the 39'.
The WolfPack registered one more shot on goal before the first half ended with a 1-0 differential, however, were unable to put another shot on goal the rest of the match. Rock Valley College (6-2) added some breathing room in the 84' with a goal to make it 2-0.
Madison College produced more total shots than RVC by a 15 to 10 count. The Golden Eagles doubled up the visitors in shots on goal, 6-3.Â
Samuka Toure had two of the WolfPack's shots on goal, with
Jonas Luskey Sanders producing the other.Â
Second year goalkeeper
Sebastian Varela was credited with four saves.
Rock Valley College advances to the Region 4 Division III Championship against #1-seed Harper College on Friday, May 21, with the winner earning an automatic spot in the NJCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championships.
