ELGIN, ILL. - A back-and-forth game Tuesday night ended with the Madison College women's basketball team following up the season's first victory with the season's first win streak as they earned a 64-57 decision over Elgin Community College. in a Region 4 matchup. Laurissa Pickel to better her previous career-high by seven points. The WolfPack are now 7-2 all-time against the Spartans.
Much like Saturday's win at Prairie State College, the visiting WolfPack got out to a fast start with a 12 straight points after an Elgin Community College (2-5) free throw. Freshman guard
Brianna Hendricks keyed the run with eight points, including two 3-pointers. An eight point Madison College lead after the first quarter returned to an 11-point differential at 23-12 after five consecutive points from sophomore Oliva Marron. The Spartans, however, answered with a 17-6 surge to end the half tied at 29-29. A competitive first five minutes of the third quarter quickly changed when
Lauren Thole's jumper evened the score with five minutes left in the quarter and jumpstarted a 12-0 run that put the 'Pack on top 49-41 entering the final quarter. Early in the fourth quarter Madison College was able to expand its lead to a game-high 14 points, but 11 straight Spartans points to close within five. The WolfPack kept the home team at bay with successful shots from
Amareyna Knox and Pickel.
Pickel, a native of Reedsburg, Wisconsin, poured in her 22 points on 8 of 18 shooting from the field and a 6 for 8 effort at the free throw line to secure her fourth double-digit scoring game. The 5'8" guard also reeled in a career-best 11 rebounds for her first career double-double. Hendricks, a former Watertown HS athlete, finished with a dozen points for her third consecutive ten-plus-point outing and fourth overall. She converted 5 of 11 shots from the floor and knocked down the only two shots from long distance for the WolfPack. Marron went on to add nine points, while
Taylor Ripp matched Pickel with 11 rebounds. Knox registered a team-high four assists and Thole collected four steals.
Madison College won the rebounding battle by a 54-46 margin, which led to a 10-7 edge in second chance points. The WolfPack also controlled the paint with a 40-28 advantage in interior scoring.
