GRAYSLAKE, ILL. - The Madison College men's basketball team picked up its second consecutive win and its second road win Thursday with a 70-56 victory at the College of Lake County in a Region 4 matchup. The WolfPack, who led for a majority of the game and benefited from four 3-pointers and 23 points from freshman
Keith Hoffman, snapped a six-game losing streak against the Lancers and are now 1-6 in the all-time series.
Trailing 10-9 less than five minutes into the game, Madison College used Hoffman's first made three-pointer to regain a lead they would never relinquish. The visitors twice pushed the advantage to eight points before taking a 34-28 differential into the locker room. College of Lake County (1-3) scored the first four points of the second half to pull within two when Hoffman drained another long range shot and ignited a key 13-0 run to put the WolfPack in full control. The Lancers did string together an eight-point swing late in the game to drop the differential to single digits with 3:30 remaining, however, the 'Pack finished the game scoring nine of the final 13 points.
Hoffman, who now leads the team in made three-pointers (19) and three-point percentage (52.8%), matched a career-high with his 23 points for his seventh double-digit scoring game. The forward from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, was 4 for 6 outside the arc as part of a 9 for 13 shooting night coming off the bench. Hoffman also pulled down a team-best nine rebounds for the fifth time in six games and was tops with three steals.
Fellow freshman
Telin Porter also came off the bench to score in double figures with 15 points and a team-leading four assists. The 6'3" guard from Houston, Texas, made 6 of 12 field goal tries with one 3-porter and two made free throws.
Nik Feller and
Trevon Liggins each contributed eight points and a pair of steals.
Madison College converted 28 of 64 shots for its third-highest shooting percentage of the season at 43.8%, while also matching its lowest turnover output in a game with ten. The WolfPack controlled the paint with a 42-38 lead in interior scoring, as well as a 14-7 edge in points off turnovers.
