CRYSTAL LAKE, ILL. - The first game of the 2021-22 women's basketball season ended in a loss for Madison College as they fell 88-48 at Region 4 foe McHenry County College on Tuesday. The Scots have won four straight meetings against the WolfPack, and lead the all-time series by a 2-4 tally. The 'Pack last defeated MCC in the 2016-17 season, which also marks the last time they won their season-opener.
McHenry County College (0-1) took control of the game early with a 16-6 advantage after the first quarter, and eventually led 44-16 at the half. The differential stretched to 42 entered the fourth quarter, which the WolfPack won by an 11-9 margin. Madison College shot nearly 38% from the floor, and finished just 1 for 10 from beyond the arc and 13 of 37 at the free throw line. They also committed 29 turnovers.Â
The freshman trio of
Amareyna Knox,
Laurissa Pickel, and
Taylor Ripp led the way offensively with ten points each. Knox, a guard from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, scored all of her points inside the three-point arc, to go along with team-best three assists and three rebounds. Pickel, a former Weston HS guard, came off the bench to knock down three shots and convert 4 of 6 free throws. Ripp, a Lodi, Wisconsin, native, also sank three shots and four free throws. The 5'9" guard also was tops in rebounds with four, tying 5'7" first year guard
Viola Larson.
Defensively, Larson, a product of Walworth, Wisconsin, registered four blocked shots, followed by Pickel with two. Freshman guard
Brianna Hendricks collected a team-high four steals.

Madison College (0-1) remains on the road for game two of the season when they travel to Elgin Community College (1-0) on Saturday, November 6. The WolfPack boasts a 6-2 record all-time against the Spartans, who moved up from Division III to Division II. Tip off in Elgin, Illinois, is at 1:00 p.m.
