WolfPack season swept away in semifinal loss to DuPage

Home loss for second-seeded Madison College caps season at 15-13

UPDATE: Sophomore outside hitter Jadyn Holman was named to the NJCAA Region 4 Division III All-Tournament Team.
MADISON, WISC. - Thursday night's Region 4 Division III Tournament Semifinal at H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium did not go as planned for second-seeded Madison College, who was swept 3-0 by third-seeded College of DuPage. The 25-20, 25-21, and 25-22 decision ends the WolfPack's season with a 15-13 record, and also marks the third semifinal setback in the last four years.

The match began with the Chaparrals taking a 7-2 lead, but Madison College fought back to go in front 9-8 in set one. The set would end with the College of DuPage (21-12) going on an 11-6 run. Set two started out in a similar fashion with COD taking a slim lead and Madison College working hard to eventually tie the set after an early time out. With the set tied 14-14, The Chaps rattled off six consecutive points as part of a bigger 11-7 surge to take a two-sets-to-none lead. Looking to turn the momentum, Madison College was red hot to start the third set and raced out to a five-point lead at 7-2. Unfortunately, the College of DuPage slowly trimmed their deficit and took the lead late en route to winning the match.

The WolfPack registered 33 kills on a .108 attack percentage, and amassed ten of their 22 attack errors in the opening set. The Chaparrals hit at a .220 efficiency, produced an 8-5 edge in aces, and an 8-4 advantage in blocks. Defensively, the home team chased down a 66-40 differential in digs to help keep the match within reach.

Sophomore Jadyn Holman was the only player in the match with double-digit kills, hammering home 15 kills on a .194 hitting percentage. The outside hitter from Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin, posted her 12th double-double of the season with ten digs. Holman also served up a pair of aces.

Freshman Mariah Best handled a bulk of the setting responsibilities and finished with 24 assists to mark her seventh performance with 20 or more assists. Second year setter Kaleia Lawrence had five assists and a team-best three aces.

Amelia Walton, a sophomore from Madison, Wisconsin, played defensive specialist, outside hitter, and libero, posted a team-high 20 digs, to go along with three kills and a block.

Madison College still leads the all-time series by a 30-10, while the College of DuPage earned its first-ever postseason win over the WolfPack following five prior losses. The Chaparrals advance to the Region 4 Division III Championship on Saturday, October 30 in Rockford, Illinois, against host and top-seeded Rock Valley College, who swept fourth-seeded Harper college in the other semifinal. The latest NJCAA Division III Poll has Rock Valley College at #1, College of DuPage at #8, and Harper College at #10.
