WolfPack place 20 on NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards list

Two finish 2019-20 with perfect 4.0 as Madison College completes successful academic year

Despite having to finish the academic calendar amidst a worldwide pandemic that forced classes to be shifted online for the final two months, 20 Madison College student-athletes were named NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Award winners. It marks the third consecutive year in which that many WolfPack student-athletes achieved the highest national honor. Included in the 2019-20 award recipients are two All-Academic First Team honorees that earned a perfect 4.00 over the course of two semesters.

By earning a 3.60 or better grade point average over two semesters, the 20 student-athletes found their names on the NJCAA's Academic Student-Athlete Award list. The group includes representatives from six of the eight Madison College varsity sports teams. The WolfPack softball team produced six award winners to lead the way, followed by baseball with five. Each of those two programs also boast a student-athlete with a perfect 4.0 GPA's, with freshmen Nathan Ebersole (baseball) and Sabrina Reuter scoring high marks in the classroom and earning NJCAA All-Academic First Team. Five others received second team accolades, with 13 more earning third team distinctions. Thirteen members of this year's list accomplished the feat in their first year as collegiate students, and an impressive six of the seven sophomores to be recognized were receiving the awards for a second consecutive year, pushing the number of student-athletes in Madison College history to pull off that achievement to 27.

Madison College also featured 118 North Central Community College Conference (N4C) Academic All-Conference Award winners over the course of the last two semesters. That number includes 60 recipients in the Fall 2019 semester and 58 more in the Spring 2020 semester, and accounts for 76 individual student-athletes to receive the honor. Those student-athletes were able to achieve a 3.00 or better grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits passed in the semester.

As the sophomores with the highest individual cumulative grade point averages, Irene Tomasovic (softball) and Pierson Gibis (baseball) were named the Madison College Top Female and Male Scholar Athletes, respectively.
