MADISON, WISC. - For the second time against Harper College this season, the Madison College men's basketball team set a new mark for largest margin of victory with a 108-57 decision in a North Central Community College Conference game Saturday at
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The win was keyed by an impressive showing from the WolfPack reserves, which accounted for 64 points and saw freshmen
Amire Williams-Stribling and
Max Keyeski establish new career-highs. The margin of victory is the largest since a 119-48 decision over UW-Richland on December 3, 2008, while also giving the 'Pack a five game win streak over the Hawks and a 16-10 edge in the all-time series.
Freshman
Malcolm Reed's jumper in the paint less than four minutes into the game tied the score at 8-8 and ignited an impressive 18-0 run that put the WolfPack in control. Sophomore
Shamar Newman scored six points during that stretch. An 11-1 surge during the final couple minutes of the half propelled Madison College to a 56-26 lead at the break. Visiting Harper College (1-25, 0-10) was never able to mount a comeback, as the 'Pack put together scoring runs of nine, 11, and eight during the second half.
Williams-Stribling, a 6'0" native of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, produced his second double-digit game in the last three outings with a 10 for 14 effort that included a career-high three 3-pointers en route to 23 points. The transfer from NJCAA Division II Iowa Central Community College also had three rebounds, three assists, and four steals, which tied for the team lead.
Newman, who came off the bench for the sixth time this season, fell a basket shy of his career-best with 20 points, and also made 10 of 14 shots. The 6'3" forward/guard reached the 20-point plateau for the second time and now has ten double-digit games in the last 13 played. Newman also added five rebounds, three steals, two assists, and one block.
Forward
Max Keyeski was the second WolfPack player to net a career-best in points with 14, nine better than his previous high-water mark. The Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native knocked down two shots from beyond the arc as part of a 6 for 9 overall performance. Keyeski also came dangerously close to his first career double-double with a career-high eight rebounds that tied for the most on the team.
Malcolm Reed and
Earl Lewis rounded out the five double-figure scorers for Madison College. Reed, who has started two consecutive games after coming off the bench in the previous four, posted an efficient 5 for 6 day with two free throws for 12 points. It's his first game with ten or more points since January 4. He also had five rebounds and four assists. Lewis registered ten points, a team-high eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals. The 6'1" shooting guard made two of his three shots from beyond the arc for his 11th game in double-figures. Sophomore
Davion Washington had nine points, a team-high eight assists, five rebounds, and four steals.
Madison College converted 46 of 76 total shots for their highest single-game field goal percentage of the season at 60.5%. They also finished with a 47-27 advantage in total rebounds and 11 fewer turnovers, which led to a 22-6 differential in second chance points and a 17-6 discrepancy in points off turnovers.
