PALATINE, ILL. - The Madison College men's basketball team picked up their first win in North Central Community College Conference play with a resounding 98-59 victory over Harper College on Wednesday, ending a two-game losing streak. Five players reached double-figures in scoring, with
Jason Williams and
Davion Washington picking up double-doubles in the program's largest margin of victory since a 40-point home win over Kishwaukee College in December 2017. The WolfPack's fourth straight win - and ninth in the past 11 meetings - over the Hawks improves their all-time record against the N4C foe to 15-10.
Madison College netted the first ten points of the game on 4 of 5 shooting that included a pair of early three-pointers by sophomore
Earl Lewis. The visitors then turned a four-point advantage into a 27-9 lead with a 14-0 run, and followed with a 20-5 surge to end the half with a 33-point edge over Harper College (1-17, 0-3). The differential remained in the 30's throughout most of the second half, however, the 'Pack did extend their advantage to 43 points after a pair of
Shamar Newman free throws with seven minutes remaining.
The WolfPack shot better than 40% for the sixth consecutive game as they were 40 for 87 (46%) overall, and converted 8 of 24 (33.3%) beyond the arc and 10 of 17 (58.8%) at the free throw line. Madison College secured a season-high 64 rebounds in the game, including 25 offensive, en route to being plus-31 in total rebounds. That differential was also turned into a 23-3 separation in second chance points, and contributed to a 48-28 lead in points in the paint.
Lewis, a product of Madison East High School, led the WolfPack scoring for the second straight game with 18 points on 7 of 14 shooting and three makes from long range. The sixth double-digit scoring performance this season for the 6'1" guard went along with seven rebounds, a team-leading five assists, and a pair of steals.
Williams, a first year forward, picked up his sixth double-double of the season - and third in his last five games played - with 17 points and 11 rebounds. The Evansville, Indiana, native matched Lewis for team-high honors with five assists. Washington, a second year guard also from Madison East High School, added 16 points and a reeled in a career-best 14 rebounds for his second career double-double and his sixth game this year with ten or more points.
Also reaching the ten-point plateau were freshmen
Marcus Kartes with 12 points and
Jordan Boyd with career-high ten. Kartes knocked down three 3-pointers as part of a 4 for 10 shooting effort, and has reach double-figures in three straight games. Boyd, a native of London, England, had not scored more than two points in any game prior and finished 4 for 13 with a three and a free throw.

Madison College (8-8, 1-2) continues a brief two-game road trip on Saturday, January 11 when they play Wilbur Wright College (5-12, 1-2) and look for a second straight N4C win. The WolfPack swept the regular season series last year and have taken three straight en route to a 16-4 lead in the head-to-head matchups. Game time is at 3:00 p.m. in Chicago, Illinois.
