Extra points needed in decisive set before Madison College walks out with win

GLEN ELLYN, ILL. - The season's first five-set match brought plenty of drama for the Madison College women's volleyball team, who outlasted the College of DuPage on Wednesday for their first North Central Community College Conference win of the season. The 3-2 victory featured hotly contested set scores of 21-25, 25-21, 25-21, 21-25, and 20-18. The win snaps a brief three-game skid, while also boosting the Madison College advantage in the all-time series to 29-7.

Despite ten kills in the opening set, the WolfPack hit just .061 in taking a loss. The attack percentage slowly climbed over the next two sets, both won by the 'Pack. In the fifth, Madison College registered one of its best sets of the season, with a dozen kills and a .258 efficiency. For the match, the visitors racked up season-high's with 48 kills, 39 assists, ten aces, and 88 digs.

Freshman middle blocker Sidni Walgurski put together a career-night with a dozen kills and three solo blocks. The double-digit kills effort is the first of the season for the Green Bay, Wisconsin, native. Also reaching double-figures for the second straight match and third time this season was fellow Green Bay product Cathleen Flannery, who finished with ten kills and tied for the team-lead with three aces. Four others had multiple kills, including eight each by Calla Borchert and Olivia Marron. Borchert also registered a team-best four blocks.

For the first time this season, two setters each earned double-digit assists, led by freshman Lena La Fleur's 22. Fellow first year Kaleia Lawrence added 13 assists. Also a first for the WolfPack were three players collecting ten or more digs in a match. Former Verona Area High School athlete Amelia Walton, who also matched Flannery with three aces, tracked down a career-high 28 digs to nearly double her previous high of 15. Sophomores Sage Esser and Marron tallied 15 and 11 digs, respectively.
