MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College women's soccer team found themselves in a dog fight on Saturday as the College of DuPage gave the home team all it could handle before the WolfPack earned a 1-0 win at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. Sophomore
Jenna Kohrt and
Kelly Kubicek provided the difference, with the former scoring the North Central Community College Conference game's lone goal and the latter recorded her third shutout of the season. The 'Pack has won five straight matches over the Chaparrals, but still trail in the all-time series by a 9-5 margin.
The first half was controlled by both defenses, as the two teams combined for just four total shots and put three on goal. As the match climbed inside of it's final 20 minutes, Madison College finally able to get on the board. The WolfPack was awarded a corner kick, and second year defender
Anna Cappaert lifted a pass right to a charging Kohrt, who played it perfectly off her body and eventually through the goalkeeper's legs. The Monona, Wisconsin, native now boasts four goals and a dozen total points on the season. Cappaert, a product of Monona Grove High School, increased her assist total to four to tie for the team lead.
The WolfPack held off the College of DuPage (3-2, 3-2) the rest of the match as Kubicek denied six shots on goal. The Oregon, Wisconsin, native now owns 11 career shutouts, moving her one away from tying the program's all-time record of 12 that is held by current assistant coach
Brandie Gospodarek (2016-17). Kubicek has 25 saves and three goals allowed so far this fall.
For the match, Madison College created a 13-6 advantage in total shots, however, the overall shots were much close with the 'Pack claiming a smaller 7-6 lead. The home team was also plus-four in corner kicks. Sophomore
