MADISON, WISC. - The season's first lead eventually turned into the season's first victory as the Madison College men's soccer team downed Elgin Community College, 2-1, in a Region IV match at
Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East on Saturday. The WolfPack found the back of the net twice within a 75-second stretch of the first half and held off the Spartans to improve to 1-2-2 on the season. The win also propels the 'Pack to a 3-1 all-time record against Elgin CC.
The game's first scoring strike came from freshman
Bobby Urey, who netted an unassisted goal in the 28'. It was the first career goal for the midfield/forward from Madison West High School. Urey then delivered the pass that led to freshman forward
Samuka Toure's first career goal just more than a minute later. The WolfPack kept the 2-0 advantage into the second half.Â
The Spartans (3-4-1) cut their deficit in half with a goal in the 56' against sophomore
Msughter Abel Dzoho, however, the goalkeeper made six saves in the game to earn the win. Elgin Community College produced a 20-12 differential in total shots, including a 7-5 edge in shots on goal. The Spartans also had six more corner kicks than the home team.
Urey and Toure each attempted a team-high three shots, with all of Urey being put on goal. He finished with a game-high three points.
