MADISON, WISC. - Three days after clinching a share of the title, the Madison College baseball team took the next step in solidifying themselves as outright North Central Community College Conference champions in 2019 with a split of their doubleheader against Rock Valley College on Tuesday at
Robin Roberts Field. The WolfPack, who earlier in the day moved back into the
NJCAA Division II Poll at #18, defeated the Golden Eagles 11-5 in the opener to claim their first N4C title since 2015 and sixth overall. The game marked the team's 16th consecutive victory, and also featured sophomore
Matt Hamilton as the winning pitcher, moving him into the top spot in the
record books for career wins at Madison College with 15. Game two finished with
#7-ranked Rock Valley College earning a 9-5 decision to snap the win streak and put the all-time series at 37-23 between the I-90 rivals.

Matt Hamilton's historic win was aided by a big offensive inning for the WolfPack in the second. Madison College tallied five runs on five hits, one walk, and an error. Sophomore
Lucas Trebian provided the first big hit with a run-scoring single to center, and then scored on
Carl Valk's double to the wall in right. Two batters later it as shortstop
Walker Jenkins grounding a ball throught the left side to plate Valk, after which
Nick Gile hit his team-leading 15th double of the season to bring in Jenkins. The inning's final run was the result of
Adam LaRock singling to right field and Gile racing in to score.
A balk call against Hamilton led to a four-run third innings for the Golden Eagles, highlighted by a three-run homer. However, the WolfPack answered back with a three-run shot of their own in the fourth. Singles by
Carson Holin and Gile put two runners aboard with two outs for home run leader
Jarrett Scheelk, who smashed his seventh of the year to deep left to make it 8-4. After RVC added another in the top of the sixth, the 'Pack capped the scoring in the home half with three more runs, including a two-run homer by sophomore
Marquis Reuter for his second career long ball.
Despite the one rough inning, Hamilton (7-0) kept his perfect record in tact en route to etching his name atop the all-time pitching wins list at Madison College. The righthander from Oak Creek, Wisconsin, worked six innings and struck out seven batters, boosting his team-leading total to 46. He was also credited with three earned runs on five hits and two walks. Freshman
Taylor Jansen pitched the scoreless seventh innings, recording a walk and a strikeout.
The WolfPack amassed 16 total hits, with six players posting multiple hits. Gile and Trebian each had three hits, setting a new career-high for Trebian, a product of Madison La Follette High School. He was one of seven players that had at least one hit, one run scored, and one run batted in. Home run hitters Scheelk and Reuter paced the team with three and two RBI, respectively, while Gile and
Nathan Aide each had two runs scored.
WolfPack baseball has now won 37 conference championships overall, the most of any program at Madison College.

Visiting Rock Valley College (34-12, 7-5) struck first in the finale with two runs in the first half inning off starter
Brandon Komar. Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, native
Nick Gile got one run back with his fourth home run of the season, a solo blast in the first to make it a 2-1 deficit. The 'Pack tied it up in the second when freshman catcher
Henry Henk single in
Marquis Reuter after the sophomore led off with a walk and stole second base. In the fourth and fifth innings, the Golden Eagles plated six combined runs to break the open at 8-3.
Jarrett Scheelk tried to make a game of it with his second home run of the day and eighth of the season, a two-run bomb to center in the fifth for the Green Bay, Wisconsin, native. The home team mustered just one base runner the rest of the game, while RVC added another run in the seventh.
At the plate, Scheelk went 1 for 3 with two runs driven in and one scored, LaRock finished 2 for 3 with a run scored, Reuter had a team-high two runs scored, and Gile tallied a hit, a run, and a RBI.
Komar (1-1) was making his fifth start of the season and was tagged for seven earned run on 11 hits and a two walks. The former Elkhorn Area High School athlete did strike out six batters in his five innings on the bump. Freshman
Connor Jasurda tossed the final two innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits and recorded two punchouts.
The WolfPack is now 9-1 in the
N4C standings.

Madison College (27-8, 9-1) will take Wednesday off before wrapping up their homestand on Thursday with a doubleheader against Region IV foe Black Hawk College (14-12). The WolfPack have won four straight over the Braves and are 17-11 all-time. Opening pitch at
