LEESBURG, FLOR. - The Madison College softball team rebounded in a big way from Tuesday two losses by run-ruling NJCAA Division III Rainy River Community College (MN) in a pair of games at the Sleepy Hollow Recreational Complex. The #12-ranked WolfPack took doubleheader opener by a 15-1 count in five innings, and then completed the sweep with a 13-1 decision in five innings. The pair of wins improves Madison College to 4-1 all-time against the Voyageurs.
Game #1: #12 Madison College 15, Rainy River Community College 1 (5 innings)
Madison College opened the day by scoring in each of the first four innings. Three walks, two steals, a wild pitch, and a
Kylie Endres run-scoring double in the first half inning gave the 'Pack a 3-0 lead. After Rainy River scored their lone run in the bottom half against righthanded starter
Brianna Farrington, the WolfPack offense began to pour it on.
Maegan Brookins doubled home two runs and
Dany Gumz singled in another as part of a four-run second, which was followed by a one-run third inning that featured
Paige Cornelissen singing in
Hannah Grahl. The scoring surge ended with a seven spot in the fourth inning off four hits and three free passes to first.
Kyrsten George,
Tristan Scholler, Gumz, and
Maddie Fink each registered a RBI.
Farrington, a native of Columbus, Wisconsin, improved to 3-1 with her best outing so far. The freshman went five innings and allowed just one run on two hits, a walk, and two strikeouts. Farrington retired 12 of the last 13 batters faced.
Madison College finished with nine hits, four of which went for extra bases, and eight walks taken. Gumz was the lone player with multiple hits, going 2 for 3 with three runs batted in and two scored. Brookins, a former Poynette High School athlete, drove in two runs and scored another.
Irene Tomasovic and Grahl tied for team-high honors with three runs scored, setting a season-high for Grahl.Â
Game #2: #12 Madison College 13, Rainy River Community College 1 (5 innings)
The onslaught continued into the second game as the WolfPack jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first two innings.
Anna Manke, a product of Lodi High School, drove in her first career run on a double to right to cap a three-run first. The second inning produced six more runs after the Voyageurs loaded the bases with three straight free passes to first base, followed by a run-scoring
Paige Cornelissen single and then a four-run inside-the-park home run to center by Scholler for her first career homer. Madison College surpassed the run-rule threshold in the fourth inning with four more runs.
Scholler, a St. Mary's Springs High School alum, went 2 for 4 with four runs batted in and two runs scored to set career-high marks in all three categries.
Morgan Dercola also had two hits and Cornelissen drove in two runs. Scholler,
Maddie Fink,
Allison Tomlinson, and
Maddie Krafcheck all scored twice for the WolfPack.
In the circle, Fink (2-1) shut down Rainy River Community College (1-7) to secure her second win. The native of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, scattered three hits, struck out two batters, and allowed one unearned run.Â

Madison College (11-5) will play two more games in Kissimmee on Thursday, its penultimate day of the annual Florida Spring Trip. The #12 WolfPack begin with a rematch against Onondaga Community College (NY), which beat the 'Pack two days prior. Game two is against NCAA Division III Bethel University JV. First pitch of the opener at Osceola Sports Complex is at 8:45 a.m. CST/9:45 a.m. EST, with game two to start at 11:00 a.m. CST/12:00 p.m. EST.
