KISSIMMEE, FL. -
Jordan Martin wasted no time making her presence felt in Madison College softball's first game of the spring trip. The first year righthander from Hortonville H.S. allowed only one hit over seven innings of work, posting her second one hit shutout of the season. The Pack' won 5-0 over Mott Community College from Michigan. In the second game, the WolfPack scored just one run on five hits and fell 8-1 to Cuyahoga Community College from Ohio.
Game #1: #12 Madison College 5, Mott Community College 0 (7 innings)
The #12-ranked Madison College WolfPack started their 2019 Florida spring trip against Mott Community College and got out to a fast start. The WolfPack scored four runs on five hits as
Irene Tomasovic drove in one,
Nicole Ferch hit a double to score two, and
Paige Hintz hit a line drive single to plate Ferch. Madison College added another run in the fourth on a
Dany Gumz single, and that was enough as WolfPack ace
Jordan Martin fanned eight batters and did not walk anyone on her way to a one-hit shutout.
Jordan Martin earned her second one-hit shutout of the season and recorded her third win of the year.
Maegan Brookins and
Dany Gumz each had two hits, while Gumz posted two RBIs and Brookins had two steals. In all, the WolfPack belted out ten hits with eight players recording at least one. The WolfPack won 5-0 in seven innings.
Game #2: Cuyahoga Community College 8, #12 Madison College 1 (7 innings)
Game two of the spring trip was a different story as Cuyahoga got out to an early lead after one inning. The WolfPack answered with a run of their own in the second on a wild pitch. In the third inning, Cuyahoga broke the game open scoring three runs, and two innings later added three more. Cuyahoga would add another run in the sixth, while holding the WolfPack scoreless over the last five innings. First year pitcher
Maddie Fink and the WolfPack took the loss, 8-1.
The WolfPack used first year pitchers
Maddie Fink and
Brianna Farrington. Fink pitched three and one-third innings surrendering five hits and two earned runs, while striking out one and walking four. Farrington gave up five hits and four earned runs, while walking two and striking out three in two and two-thirds innings of work.
Madison College batters had just five hits and four of those hits came from second year players,
Maegan Brookins and
Dany Gumz. Brookins and Gumz each had two hits.

Madison College (5-3) will play two games Saturday (3/16). The WolfPack will play Moraine Valley Community College at 8:45 a.m. CST/9:45 a.m. EST, and turn around and play Marian University JV at 11:00 a.m. CST/12:00 p.m. EST. Both games are at the Osceola Sports Complex in Kissimmee, FL.
