CHICAGO, ILL. - Sophomore
Aniah Williams had the hot shooting hand early and the Madison College women's basketball team returned from their Thanksgiving break to defeat NJCAA Division I Malcolm X College by a 70-51 final Saturday. The returning NJCAA All-American connected on a career-high six 3-pointers to spark the WolfPack to a second consecutive win and their sixth in the last seven games. The 'Pack is also now 2-1 all-time against the Hawks in the first meeting since the programs split a home-and-home series during the 1988-89 season.
Williams knocked down a pair of triples in the game's first few minutes, while two more makes from beyond the arc by freshmen
Julia Bruns and
Hailey Kaenel keyed a 14-0 WolfPack run a the first that ended with the visitors leading by a dozen. Two more three-pointers by Williams early in the second quarter helped maintain a double-digit lead with Madison College owning a 36-22 advantage at the break. The differential reached 26 points in the third quarter thanks to a 12-0 surge that included the final two long-range bombs for Williams. Madison College won three of the four quarters played, with Malcolm X College (4-2).
Williams, a 5'8" guard from Beloit, Wisconsin, scored 20 points on 7 of 15 shooting and hit on 6 of 10 shots from distance. Her third 20-point performance of the season also marks the 15th of her career. She had previously made four 3's in a single game on seven occasions before establishing the new career mark. Williams also tallied four assists to tie Bruns for team-high honors.
Freshmen
Amber Sue Udelhoven and
Olivia Marron each poured in ten points off the bench. Udelhoven was 3 for 8 from the field and a perfect 4 of 4 at the free throw line in reaching double-figures for the third time this season. The Potosi, Wisconsin, native also secured a career-high nine rebounds to lead the 'Pack in that category. Marron set a new career-best in points after scoring on four of seven field goal attempts and going 2 for 3 at the charity stripe. The two-sport athlete from La Farge, Wisconsin, also racked up seven rebounds. In all, ten of the 12 WolfPack players that saw action in the game contributed to the scoring effort.
As a team, Madison College made a season-high nine 3-pointers and posted their third-best outside shooting percentage in a game this season at 40.9%. They also finished 15 of 21 at the line collectively for a season-high 71.4%. The WolfPack had fewer than 25 turnovers for the third consecutive game and owned a hefty 28-14 lead in points off turnovers. And despite both teams totaling 51 rebounds, the Hawks were plus-ten in second chance points.

Madison College (6-3) wraps up a two-game road swing on Wednesday, December 4 when it continues its most-played rivalry against Western Technical College (4-1). The two programs have been playing every year since the 1977-78 season, and the WolfPack boast a 75-21 lead with a current five-game win streak over the Cavaliers. The 97th meeting will tip off at 5:30 p.m. at the Holy Cross Seminary Gym in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
