COON RAPIDS, MINN. - The Madison College men's basketball team is continues to show they can put the ball in the basket as they pushed their streak of consecutive games with 100 or more points to four to open the season and now sit as the fourth-highest scoring team in NJCAA Division III at 101.7 points per game after a 1-1 weekend at the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Tournament this past weekend. The WolfPack downed the host Golden Rams by a 103-88 score in the opener on Friday, but suffered their first loss of the season in a 114-11 overtime game against St. Cloud Technical & Community College on Saturday.
Davion Washington and
Allen Robinson each enjoyed career-high scoring efforts, with 31 and 38 points, respectively.
Game #1: Madison College 103, Anoka-Ramsey Community College 88 - Friday, November 8
Madison College struggled out of the gate against Anoka-Ramsey Community College (1-1) and trailed 13-4 after the first five minutes of action. The deficit reached double-figures at 27-17 midway through the half when the WolfPack turned it around and outscored the Golden Rams 33-13 going into halftime. The surge included two runs of six straight points and another of nine consecutive that was highlighted by back-to-back triples from
Davion Washington. Up ten to start the second half, the visitors held off an ARCC rally that trimmed the differential to three with just over nine minutes to play. Three minutes later, the 'Pack went on a 14-0 run that included three 3-pointers from freshman
Marcus Kartes to push Madison College over the century mark and ahead 101-78.
Washington, a sophomore from Madison, Wisconsin, notched 31 points to surpass his season-opening output of 29 against Sheboygan for his new career-high. He scored on an efficient 9 of 12 shots and hit 2 of 4 tries from outside the arc, but did a huge chunk of damage at the free throw line with 11 makes in 13 attempts. The 6'2" guard didn't stop there as he also led the WolfPack with a dozen rebounds and six assists for his first career double-double.
Three others scored ten or more points, with guard
Allen Robinson posting 19 points on 6 of 10 shooting with one three and a 6 for 10 showing at the free throw line. The Goose Creek, South Carolina, native also had five rebounds. Reserves
Jason Williams and
Marcus Kartes registered 18 and 14 points, respectively. Williams was nearly perfect from the floor as the Evansville, Indiana, product converted 8 of 9 field goal attempts and both free throws, while also coming up with three rebounds and a team-leading four steals. Kartes, a sharpshooting guard from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was good on 4 of hit 7 tries from three-point range.
The WolfPack were 35 of 62 overall for a season-high 56.5%, to go along with a 9 for 19 (47.4%) effort from distance and a 24 for 35 (68.6%) showing at the line. Madison College dominated the glass with a 48-29 edge in rebounding, that translated into a 12-4 edge in points off turnovers. They also owned a 46-26 advantage in points in the paint, but trailed 20-9 in points off turnovers.
The all-time series is now even 5-5, with the 'Pack taking two of the last three meetings.
Game #2:Â St. Cloud Technical & Community College 114, Madison College 111 (OT) - Saturday, November 9
Despite a season-high 16 made three-pointers, Madison College was unable to come up with one when they needed at the end of overtime as took their first loss of the season. A relatively close game throughout the first half saw St. Cloud Technical & Community College (2-0) take a 12-point lead with just over three minutes remaining before the WolfPack closed to within seven at the break. The deficit continued to grow in the second half to as high as 18 at 69-51 with 13 minutes remaining when Madison College began to rally back thanks to consecutive long-range bombs from
Marcus Kartes. Still down nine with less than six minutes to go, the WolfPack put together an 11-2 run to tie the game at 88. As the clock began to wind down on a 99-97 lead for SCTCC, freshman
Allen Robinson, who had sank five threes already in the game, attempted another one for the win and was fouled. He made two of the three tries and sent the game to overtime. Robinson connected on two more triples in overtime to put the WolfPack ahead, however, the Cyclones scored 11 of the final 19 points and survived a missed three at the buzzer by Robinson.
Robinson's career-best 38 points included 12 of 21 shooting overall, a 7 for 13 effort from distance, and a 7 for 9 display at the free throw line. The 6'2" shooting guard also had seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Fellow freshman
Dayton Coleman came off the bench to also net a career-high with 20 points, hitting 6 of 10 field goal attempts and 3 of 5 three-pointers. The native of Champaign, Illinois, was 5 for 6 at the stripe. Forward
Jason Williams continued his solid start to the season with his fourth straight game with ten or more points and his second double-double. Williams finished with 17 points on 6 of 13 shooting and a 5 for 9 effort from the free throw line, while also pulling in 12 rebounds. Rounding out the double-digit scorers is
Marcus Kartes with a career-high 15 points. His four triples give him four 3-pointers in each of the last three games after starting the season 0-5. The 6'3" guard also buried three free throws.
Davion Washington dished out a team-best ten assists for his second career game with at least that many, and posted eight points and eight rebounds.
The season-high 16 makes from long range were part of a 48.5% (16-33) effort from that distance, with the WolfPack also making 48.5% (33-68) of their total shots and 74.4% (29-39) at the line. St. Cloud Technical & Community College held advantages in total rebounds (53-43, total turnovers (14-26), points off turnovers (27-25), second chance points (21-5), and points in the paint (50-30).
Playing for the fourth year in a row, the Cyclones own a 3-1 lead in the all-time series with back-to-back victories.

Madison College (3-1) heads south to play NJCAA Division I Sauk Valley Community College (2-2) on Tuesday, November 12. The WolfPack have won three of the last five meetings, including an
81-69 home decision last season, but trail the all-time series that dates back to 1988 by a 25-6 margin. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Dixon, Illinois.Â
