PALATINE, ILL. - Despite a record-tying effort in goal by sophomore
Saxon LaFlash, the Madison College men's soccer team had their season come to a end with a 1-0 loss to Harper College in the Region IV Division III Tournament Semifinals. The #3 WolfPack only put one shot on goal against the #2 Hawks, who eliminate the 'Pack in the semifinal round for a second straight year.
Harper College (15-1) put the pressure on the WolfPack defense early and often, attempting four shots within the game's first 12 minutes. They eventually busted through in the 16' when Madison College was unable to fully clear the ball on a cross that was eventually picked up and converted by Hawks freshman Anthony Duarte for the game's lone score. Playing in windy conditions, the 'Pack struggled to control the ball and was only able to put one shot goal. Freshman midfielder/forward
Bobby Urey was denied by the Harper College goalkeeper in the 38'.
LaFlash, a Madison, Wisconsin, native, collected 15 saves to tie the program record for saves in a game that was set in 2012 by fellow Madisonian, Ian Murphy. The 5'10" LaFlash led the team with 53 saves against 66 shots faced.
For the match, Madison College was out-shot by a significant 22-2 margin, which included a 16-1 differential in shots on goal. The home team also was awarded five corner kicks to just one for the 'Pack.
Harper College has won six straight matches over the WolfPack, and now own a 17-8-1 record in the all-time series.
Madison College finishes the season with a 7-7-2 record, while Harper College advances to play #1 Triton College for the Region IV title on Saturday.
