Fourth quarter collapse results in road loss for WolfPack

Poor shooting, foul trouble plague Madison College in loss to Trojans

RIVER GROVE, ILL. - The Madison College women's basketball team owned a double-digit lead in the second half of Saturday's North Central Community College Conference game at Triton College before eventually falling by a 56-45 final. The loss ends a brief two-game win streak in league play, as well as a four-game streak of victories over the Trojans.

A series of alternating scoring runs in the first half saw both teams hold the lead for various stretches, with the WolfPack twice owning a five-point advantage against NJCAA Division II Triton College (13-8, 5-1). Up 25-24 at the half, Madison College opened the third quarter on with a 15-6 burst to go ahead by a 40-30 differential with less than six minutes remaining in the quarter. The 'Pack would score just five points over the next 15-plus minutes, including only three points in the fourth quarter. During that stretch, the visitors went 2 for 15 from the floor and committed 12 turnovers.

Madison College shot 31% overall as they finished 16 of 51 on the day and converted only 1 of 17 three-point attempts for a season-low 5.9% for all games with a made three. The Trojans weren't much better at 20 of 56 (35%) overall and 2 for 13 (15%) from distance. The WolfPack's 27 turnovers marked the second-highest tally of the season, and led to a 25-21 deficit in points off turnovers, while Triton also came out on top in points in the paint by a 34-26 margin and in bench scoring with a 29-8 edge.

Freshman Aniah Williams registered 19 points on 7 of 20 shooting that included a 1 for 8 effort outside the arc. The team's top scorer on the season added four made free throws.

Sophomore transfer Shaquita Lee was the only other double-digit scorer, finishing with ten points before fouling out. The former Madison West High School athlete also had five rebounds and a team-high five steals.

Second year forward Caitlyn Gilbertson pulled in a team-leading ten rebounds and scored two points in the losing effort, which marked just the third setback all-time against the Trojans.
