LASALLE, ILL. - The Madison College men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2018 season with a 4-0 shutout of Illinois Valley Community College on Friday, August 31. The WolfPack is now 4-0 all-time against the Eagles and have outscored IVCC by a 18-5 margin in those games.
The scoring opened in the 23' when University of Charleston transfer
Dejesus Herrera converted a
Edgar Medina assist to hand Madison the game's first lead. Shortly after, sophomore defense/midfielder
Logan Carstens found the back of the net with an assist by freshman
Jonas Luskey-Sanders in the 25' to make it 2-0. The goal by Carstens is the first career scoring strike for the Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, native.
In the second half, first year forward
Shaah Kanhialal tallied his first career goal in the 58'. The successful try was assisted by
Donovan Brendler. Five minutes later it was Herrera again finding the back of the net for his second of the game and third goal of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper
Saxon LaFlash was credited with two saves over 90 minutes for his first career shutout. The WolfPack owned a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.Â

Madison College (1-1, 0-0) will begin the North Central Community College Conference portion of their schedule with the team's home opener on Wednesday, September 5 against Rock Valley College (1-1, 0-0).
