Petroski hat trick propels #7 WolfPack past DuPage

Freshman's career day part of 5-0 win to keep Madison College undefeated

MADISON, WISC. - With each passing game the Madison College women's soccer team is proving they have numerous weapons to beat an opponent with, and on Monday afternoon at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East it was freshman Meghan Petroski standing in the spotlight. The midfielder's hat trick keyed a 5-0 blanking of the College of DuPage in a North Central Community College Conference match that kept the #7-ranked WolfPack undefeated through four matches. The win also marks the third consecutive win over the Chaparrals after sweeping the season series in 2017.

For the first time all season, Madison College was held without a goal for an entire half as the first 45 minutes ended in a 0-0 tie. The WolfPack, however, did control the ball and put significant pressure on the Chaparrals defense throughout the first half, attempting eight total shots, putting three on goal, and running six corner kicks compared to zero's in all three categories for DuPage (1-2, 1-2).

The second half opened with a bang when Petroski scored her first goal of the match and second of the season to give the WolfPack the lead. The sophomore tandem of Britt Schumann and Peyton Trapino accounted for the next two goals, with Trapino setting up Schumann in the 59' for the game's second goal, and then finding the back of the net herself to make it 3-0 in the 67'.

Petroski found another scoring burst late in the match with a pair of scoring opportunities in the 78' and 80'. Her second goal cam on a header off a Trapino corner kick before she went high above the Chaparrals goalkeeper for the hat trick.

The Watertown, Wisconsin, native now has four goals on the season and becomes the fourth player in as many games with a multi-goal effort. Fellow freshman Mary Raemish did it twice, as did Schumann, while Trapino accomplished the feat once. Petroski also joins Raemish and Schumann in the hat trick club this season.

With their goals, Schumann now boasts eight goals and 17 points, and Trapino's season totals have reached four goals, a dozen assists, and 20 points.

Freshman and Oregon, Wisconsin, product Kelly Kubicek recorded her third shutout of the season and owns a 0.26 goals against average after allowing one in 345 minutes. Overall, the WolfPack attempted 23 shots to COD's four, and was plus-six in shots on goal.
