STUDY UP: WolfPack student-athletes complete impressive year in classroom

20 individuals named NJCAA Academic All-American, softball earns NJCAA All-Academic Team

The 2017-18 athletic year was one of Madison College's most successful on the field of competition, but it also proved to be outstanding for the student-athlete accomplishments in the classroom.

A resounding 72 student-athletes, or 51% of the total WolfPack student-athletes, received North Central Community College Conference (N4C) Academic All-Conference honors by achieving a 3.00 or better grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits passed per semester. That total breaks the previous record of 69 student-athletes set in 2014-15.

By earning a 3.60 or better grade point average over two semesters, 20 Madison College student-athletes were named NJCAA All-Academic Student-Athlete (see list below). The group represents six of the eight varsity sports teams, and is highlighted by four perfect 4.0 GPA's. Softball's Ali Braddock, Bre Feiler, and Riley Landenberger, as well as baseball's Theo Denlinger, each earned the nation's highest distinction of NJCAA All-Academic First Team. Nine others received second team accolades, with seven additional listed among the third team honorees. The total number falls two shy of the record 22 NJCAA Academic All-Americans last year, though both years saw a record five student-athletes receive national academic recognition for a second consecutive year, a feat that has now been accomplished 17 times in school history.

This past school year was exceptionally good for the Madison College softball team, which earned a nod as an Honorable Mention NJCAA All-Academic Team for a third straight year with an overall team grade point average above 3.0, in addition to reaching the NJCAA Division II Softball Championships for the first time in program history. The WolfPack posted a 3.36 cumulative GPA, thanks to 17 of their 23 players (73%) taking home academic all-conference awards. Coach Leo Kalinowski's club also featured ten NJCAA All-Academic Student-Athletes.

As the sophomores with the highest individual grade point averages, Ali Braddock and Theo Denlinger were named the Madison College Top Female and Male Scholar Athletes, respectively.
