Announcing his first full recruiting class, new Madison College men's basketball coach
Jamal Palmer is set to welcome a ten-member Class of 2018. The group includes Adam Anhold (Janesville, WI), Alex Berg (Madison, WI), Reese Johnson (Green Bay, WI), Earl Lewis (Madison, WI), Nathan Seelye (Grand Rapids, MN), Parker Sigmon (Middleton, WI), Mark Simmons (O'Fallon, MO), Datril Thompson (Madison, WI), Davion Washington (Madison, WI), and Ryan Wieting (Montello, WI),
Adam Anhold, a 6'9" center, transfers to Madison College from NCAA Division II Bemidji State University (MN). In high school, he was a two-time all-conference pick at Janesville Craig HS, earning second team as a senior and third team as a junior. The three-time varsity letter winner averaged 15.3 points and 8.0 rebounds during his final prep season.
Comment from Coach Palmer: "I'm excited to welcome Adam to the WolfPack program, as he will make an immediate impact on our team. He will provide an inside presence and has the ability to step out and hit the jumper. He also has the ability to put the ball on the floor and attack the rim, and provide leadership to our team."
Alex Berg, a 6'5" forward, played two years on varsity at Madison La Follette HS, picking up honorable mention all-conference honors as a junior. He averaged 11.2 points per game over the course of his career.
Comment from Coach Palmer: "Alex will be a key contributor to the WolfPack squad. He is a wing/forward that plays with a chip on his shoulder. I am excited to see Alex develop."
Reese Johnson, a 6'2" guard, was an honorable mention all-conference selection as a senior after guiding the Notre Dame Academy Tritons to a 17-7 record. A team captain, Johnson averaged 5.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 6.8 assists, while also earning Lockdown Defender honors from the team.
Comment from Coach Palmer: "Reese is a pure point guard that loves to get his teammates involved and will add leadership, He is also a tough defender that can guard all wing positions. He will add true value to the WolfPack program academically and athletically."
Earl Lewis, a 6'0" guard, improved his scoring average from 3.8 to 13.7 points per game during his two years on varsity at Madison East HS. With Lewis, the Purgolders reached back-to-back WIAA Division I Sectional Finals and posted an overall record of 32-20.
Comment from Coach Palmer: "I've watched Earl play for the last three years and he is a true competitor who brings out the best in his teammates. He is the type of student-athlete that Madison College wants, possesses true leadership skills, and I look forward to helping him develop on and off the court."
Nathan Seelye, a 6'3" guard, played four years of varsity basketball at Grand Rapids HS, where he scored over 1.000 points in his career and earned numerous postseason awards. As a senior, he averaged 24.0 points per game and was the MVP of the 2018 Minnesota vs. Wisconsin Border Battle.
Comment from Coach Palmer: "Nathan will make an immediate impact for our basketball program from day one. He has great scoring ability from the guard position with his size and length. He can create his own shot, moves well without the ball, and rebounds well. He will be a key contributor to our program as a student-athlete."
Parker Sigmon, a 6'3" guard/forward, transfers Madison College from NJCAA Division III Elgin Community College, where here averaged 2.0 points in ten games played as a freshman for the Spartans in 2017-18. As a prep, he played two years on the varsity at Middleton HS, helping the Cardinals to a 38-11 record and a Big Eight Conference title.
Comment from Coach Palmer: "Parker is a great student-athlete, moves very well without the ball, and never stops competing. That, combined with his ability to be a knock-down shooter, will be a key for our team."
Mark Simmons, a 6'3" guard/forward, earned four varsity letters in basketball at Francis Howell HS in St. Charles, MO. As a senior, he was voted the Sportsmanship Player of the Year.
Comment from Coach Palmer: "Mark is a student-athlete that will provide some versatility at multiple positions. He should be a match-up problem for opponents being able to play 2-4 positions. We are excited to have him and see him develop into a strong student-athlete."
Datril Thompson, a 5'9" guard, played two years of varsity basketball at Madison East HS and averaged 6.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, and nearly two assists per games as a senior. He helped the Purgolders to a 32-20 record and back-to-back trips to the WIAA Division I Sectional Finals.
Comment from Coach Palmer: "Datril will add leadership and toughness to the program from the point guard position."
Davion Washington, a 6'1" guard, played in every game for three consecutive years at Madison East HS. As a senior, he registered 5.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.
Comment from Coach Palmer: "Davion will add toughness and defense to the WolfPack. He loves to create for his teammates and loves to attack, putting pressure on teh defense with his ability to slash and get to the basket at will."
Ryan Wieting, a 6'7" forward, transfers to Madison College after redshirting at NCAA Division III University of Dubuque. As a prep, he led the Trailways-North Conference in rebounds and blocks in back-to-back years, earning an honorable mention all-conference selection each time. The two-year varsity player at Montello HS averaged 8.1 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks as a senior.
Comment from Coach Palmer: "Ryan is a student-athlete that I have come to know over the past year who is committed to being a quality student-athlete. He will provide depth in the post position along with rebounding and shot blocking potential. We are excited to welcome Ryan to our program."
