MADISON, WISC. - The Madison College baseball team earned a home doubleheader split at
Robin Roberts Field in a key pair of games against the College of Lake County. The WolfPack used some clutch hitting to take game one by a 7-3 final, but was unable to produce when scoring opportunities arose in a 4-0 setback in game two.
Game #1: Madison College 7, College of Lake County 3 (7 innings)
Freshman leadoff hitter
Cam Cratic fulfilled his role with regularity in the opener, reaching base three times and scoring twice. The first of those instances came in first inning when he singled to center, advanced to second on a hit by pitch, and scored on a ground ball single to left from
Logan Michaels. A sacrifice fly two batters by
Jerry LaSaint made it 2-0, and a error by the Lancers first baseman on a
Jon-Anthony Caban grounder allowed two more runs to score to make it a four-run lead. Cratic set the table again in the second with a leadoff single, and with the bases loaded,
Nick Gile drove in two runs with a hard grounder through the left side. The 'Pack made it 7-2 in the third on
Nathan Aide's RBI single up the middle that plated
Jarrett Scheelk.
Batters three through six (Michaels, Aide, Gile, and LaSaint) combined to go 9 for 11 with five RBI and two runs scored. Michaels and Aide each posted three hits to match Cratic in that category. Scheelk, batting behind Cratic in the two-spot, drew three free passes to first and scored a team-high three runs.
