MADISON, WISC. - Playing in their final regular season home game, the four-member sophomore class lead the Madison College women's basketball team to a one-sided 82-53 defeat of Harper College on Saturday at
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The WolfPack's fifth consecutive win - and 12th straight over the Hawks - keeps them within a game of Rock Valley College in the North Central Community College Conference standings heading into the final week of the season. During halftime, coach
Lois Heeren and the team honored sophomores
Shakira Burks,
Peyton Trapino,
Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven, and
Megan Corcoran.
Madison College created some separation late in the first quarter when a 14-5 run over the final five minutes turned a three-point game into a 26-14 advantage. The differential slowly built throughout the second quarter to reach a high of 20 points just before the half ended. Following a Harper College (7-19, 4-8) bucket to open the second half, the WolfPack rattled off 11 straight points to go up 61-34, but the Hawks answered with a 7-0 before the 'Pack tallied the final five points of the quarter. The lead reached a high of 31 points in the fourth quarter before Madison College finished off its 14th win in 16 all-time meetings with Harper.
Four players scored in double-figures, with one triple-double and another double-double. Corcoran made 8 of 26 attempts and 3 of 10 from long range en route to a game-high 20 points, reaching that mark for the fourth consecutive game. The Madison, Wisconsin, native has a streak of 13 straight outings with at least ten points, and also extended her streak of consecutive games with a blocked shot to 11.
Udelhoven notched 19 points behind a team-best four 3-pointers for her eighth straight game with multiple made shots from outside the arc. The native of Fennimore, Wisconsin, created havoc on defense with a career-high five steals.
Former DeForest Area HS athlete
Peyton Trapino filled the stat sheet with her first career triple-double of 14 points, 11 assists, and ten rebounds. The assist and rebound totals both match career-high's for Trapino, whose six offensive rebounds led the WolfPack effort towards an impressive 29 offensive boards.
Freshman
Tianna Sackett from West Salem, Wisconsin, established career-high marks with 13 points and ten rebounds for her first career double-double.
The WolfPack dominated several statistical categories en route to their ninth home win in 13 games at Redsten Gym. Madison College committed just 11 turnovers compared to 26 by the Hawks, a disparity that contributed to a 42-11 lead in points off turnovers. In addition to the high offensive rebound totals, the 'Pack was plus-14 in total rebounds and owned a 29-6 edge in second chance points.
