ELGIN, ILL. - The Madison College men's basketball team was unable to find balance in their inside-and-outside game and eventually lost 90-81 at Elgin Community College on Saturday. The WolfPack were just 2 for 19 (10.5%) beyond the arc, while forwards
Adam Anhold,
Alex Berg, and
Alex Easterday combined for 50 points. The loss is the second straight for the 'Pack and the fifth in seven all-time meetings with the Spartans.
Even at 10-10 after five-plus minutes of play in the first half, Elgin Community College (6-3) took control with a 9-2 run, but was answered by the WolfPack with a 14-2 surge that put the visitors on top 26-21 with less than eight minutes remaining in the half. The Spartans outscored Madison College by a 21-8 margin the rest of the half to lead by eight at the break. The deficit grew to double-digits within the first two minutes after halftime and reached a peak of 21 points at 74-53 just beyond the midway point. The 'Pack then turned in a 14-2 run the featured eight points from Berg and a
Reese Johnson three-pointer to bring the deficit down to nine points. Over the game's final four minutes Madison narrowed the game to under ten several times, but was unable to get any closer than seven points on a late
Parker Sigmon three.
Anhold, a transfer from NCAA Division II Bemidji State University, paced the WolfPack with 23 points, marking his second straight game with 20 or more points. He was 10 of 17 overall with two misses from long range and knocked down three free throws. The 6'8" Anhold also led the team with eight rebounds.
Berg, a 6'6" native of Madison, Wisconsin, played 19 minutes off the bench and scored a career-high 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. The former Madison La Follette High School athlete shot 5 of 10 from the field and made 6 of 8 attempts at the charity stripe. It was Berg's first career double-digit scoring effort.
Easterday and Addison were also in double-digits with 11 points each. Easterday converted 4 of 9 shots with a three-pointer and hit two free throws en route to his second game with ten or more points this season, while Addison reached double-digits for the seventh time this year. The Milwaukee Hamilton High School alum finished 4 for 6 on the day and was perfect on three free throws.
Madison College shot 41.1% as they made 30 of 73 attempts overall and were 16 for 22 (72.7%) at the line. The Spartans were good on 35 of 74 tries for 47.3%, including an 8 for 24 (33.3%) mark from distance, and were a combined 12 of 15 (80%) from the free throw line. The visitors did own a 30-18 advantage in bench scoring and a 10-6 edge in second chance scoring, while trailing in points off turnovers 14-6. The game featured five ties and seven lead changes.

Madison College (3-6) is back on the home floor of
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium to begin a three-game homestand on Wednesday, December 5 against Western Technical College (4-2) in the first of three consecutive games against in-state opponents. The game will mark the 100th all-time meeting between the two programs, who have been playing each other since 1970. The WolfPack leads the head-to-head series by a 66-33 count, including wins in four straight games and 41 of the last 44 contest against their second oldest rivals. Game time is at approximately 7:30 p.m.
