Dozen three-pointers send WolfPack to most lopsided win of season

Madison College uses 19-2 run to end first half, pick up season's third win

MADISON, WISC. - A close game turned one-sided Tuesday night at H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium as the Madison College men's basketball team used a 19-2 run at the end of the first half to trigger a 94-62 blowout of Rochester Community & Technical College. The WolfPack received scoring from ten of the 11 players that saw game action, including double-digit efforts from all five starters, and knocked down a season-high dozen three-pointers. The win is the second straight against the Yellowjackets and narrows the head-to-head record to 16-13 in favor of RCTC.

Sophomore guards Sean Suchomel and Nathaniel Buss were red hot for stretches of the first half, helping Madison College surge to a 14-point halftime lead. Suchomel, a Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, native, scored 11 points in the first ten minutes of the game as the home team ran out to a ten-point lead. After Rochester CTC (0-4) regained the lead with a 15-3 surge, Buss knocked down a jumper that ignited a 19-2 run to end the first half that included two additional three-pointers from the Verona Area High School product, as well as another by Suchomel. The second continued with Madison College firing on all cylinders as they scored 19 of the half's first 27 points to lead by a 72-46 margin. The would eventually outscore the Yellowjackets 43-25 for the half.



The WolfPack converted at least ten 3-pointers for the third straight game, going 12 for 26 for their second-highest percentage from deep of the year at 46.2%. Eight of the dozen came in the first half, while the second half saw the 'Pack pick up the slack at the free throw line with a 13 for 19 effort. Overall, Madison College shot 54.1% (33-61), while RCTC posted a 38.6% (22-57) mark from the field. The home team also held significant advantages in rebounds (43-26) and points off turnovers (10-4).

Suchomel finished with a game-high 21 points with an 8 for 14 effort overall, a pair of three-pointers, and three free throws. Buss added 13 points making three of his five baskets from long range. Fellow sophomore guard Jalen Addison was plagued by foul trouble in the first half, but recovered to score ten of his 15 points in the second half, including a sequence with back-to-back three-pointers. Forwards Alex Easterday and Adam Anhold scored 12 and ten points, respectively, with Anhold adding a pair of three's to the team's impressive total.

Madison College (3-4) wraps up a four-game homestand after the holiday break with a contest on Wednesday, November 28 against in-state rival and NJCAA Division II Bryant & Stratton College (3-1). The WolfPack have defeated the Bobcats by identical 88-85 scores in the first two meetings between the programs. Game time at H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium is at approximately 7:30 p.m.
