TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE: #6 WolfPack fall in four to DuPage, drop game back in N4C

Slow start sends Madison College to second league loss ahead of critical week

MADISON, WISC. - The opportunity for a North Central Community College Conference championship for the Madison College women's volleyball may have taken a huge hit Thursday with a 3-1 loss to the College of DuPage inside H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium. The #6-ranked WolfPack dropped the opening two sets and saw their late rally come up short  in a 25-19, 25-14, 15-25, 25-23 loss. The setback ends a five match win streak, as well as a 28-match consecutive wins streak over the Chaparrals.

The sluggish play by the 'Pack started early as the College of DuPage (11-15, 6-5) rattled off the first five points of the match, eventually building an 18-10 lead. Madison College clawed their way back, but never made it closer than two points. Momentum stuck with COD through the second set before the WolfPack found some life in the third set. After hitting -.061 and .043 in the opening two sets, Madison College posted a .250 attack percentage as they avoided being swept for the first time more than a month. A highly-competitive fourth set seemed headed for the home team at 20-15, however, the Chaparrals scored ten of the final 13 points to claim the match.

The WolfPack finished with a .109 attack efficiency on 37 kills. They registered nine aces, six blocks, and 64 digs.

Freshman Tianna Sackett and sophomore Paige Hostetler combined for 23 kills, picking up 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Sackett, a native of West Salem, Wisconsin, hit at a .290 clip, while Hostetler's dozen attack errors held her percentage in the negatives. Only two other players pick up a kill, with first year OH Isabella Carrillo ripping nine kills and setter Olivia Darkow earning five. Darkow, a 5'5" sophomore, had 27 assists, six digs, and two aces. Carrillo was the top defensive player at the net with three solo blocks. Second year libero Maddie Scalissi racked up a team-high 17 digs, and freshman Libby Ruhle added 11.
