MADISON, WISC. - An ultra-competitive game between in-state rivals Wednesday night went the way of the Milwaukee Area Technical College in a 66-61 defeat of the Madison College women's basketball team, ending a seven-game win streak. Despite playing on the home floor inside
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium, the WolfPack, ranked #8 in the latest
NJCAA Division III Poll released Tuesday, suffered their first loss in North Central Community College Conference play after the Stormers scored the final seven points of the game.
The 83rd all-time meeting between the two programs featured eight ties and 16 lead changes, and remained within one possession for the first nine minutes before freshman
Jaylin Stueber knocked down a jumper to hand Madison College a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. An 11-0 run to open the second quarter put MATC-Milwaukee (6-11, 2-0) in front by seven, however, the WolfPack answered with an even bigger 13-0 push over five minutes of play to regain the advantage, which eventually stood at 29-27 at halftime.
The largest advantage either team had throughout the third quarter was five points, and Madison College still owned a three-point lead at 47-44 when the fourth quarter began. The home team stayed in front through the first four minutes of the final quarter before the Stormers, now one of two remaining undefeated teams in the N4C, tied the game at 53. As the game went under two minutes remaining, freshman forward
