#5 WolfPack take road win in season opener against Clarke

Madison College travels to Battle for the Dells Tourney this weekend

DUBUQUE, IOWA - In their first match of the season, the Madison College volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory over the Clarke University (IA) JV on Tuesday night. The #5 WolfPack earned their second consecutive season-opening victory over the Crusaders with scores of 25-18, 25-22, 26-28, and 25-17. Since first playing in 2012, the 'Pack is now 8-0 all-time against the NAIA foe.

For the match, Madison College hit at a .146 attack percentage, highlighted by a .318 clip in the fourth and final set. They finished with 36 kills and seven aces on the offensive side, while the defense produced four blocks and 46 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Megan Corcoran led the effort with a career-high 13 kills on 42 attempts. Freshman Paige Hostetler posted eight kills and a .222 attack percentage. Setters Olivia Darkow and Keely Brown tallied 17 and 14 assists, respectively. Darkow, a freshman from West Bend, Wisconsin, also led the WolfPack with four aces. First year libero/defensive specialist Maddie Scalissi tracked down a match-high 18 digs.

Madison College will play the first of three early-season tournament's on Friday and Saturday when they head north on I-90/94 to Wisconsin Dells for the Battle for the Dells Tournament. They open play against NJCAA Division II Des Moines Area Community College, which is ranked #11 in the nation and owns a 2-1 all-time advantage over the WolfPack. That match begins at 10:00 am on Court 1 at Woodside Sports Complex. They continue at 2:30 p.m. opposite perennial power Rochester Community & Technical College. The Yellowjackets and WolfPack have played 28 previous times, with RCTC coming out on top in 18 of those matches, however, Madison College has won five of the last six. Saturday's matches open with a 2:30 p.m. first serve against another ranked DII opponent, #8 Sauk Valley Community College, followed by a 4:30 p.m. contest with Highland Community College.
