WolfPack softball splits a doubleheader

Madison College falls 2-3 to Cuyahoga CC then bounces back 7-0 against Rowan College

The WolfPack lost another close game to NJCAA Division II Cuyahoga Community College (OH) on Thursday morning, 3-2, after losing to them earlier in the spring trip, 1-0. In the second game, on Thursday, the 'Pack bounced back, beating Rowan College of Burlington County (NJ), 7-0.

Game #1: Cuyahoga (OH) Community College 3, Madison College 2

In the morning game of the Thursday doubleheader, the WolfPack faced NJCAA Division II, Cuyahoga Community College, for the second time during the spring trip. The game once again saw solid pitching on both sides. Cuyahoga held Madison College scoreless for the first four innings while racking up three runs of their own. With the 'Pack trailing 3-0 in the fifth inning, Bre Feiler hit a single that scored Ashley Kniesel for Madison College's first run of the game. Later in the inning, Ashley Burg hit a two-out double to left field, scoring Feiler, to make the score 3-2. Unfortunatley, that was as close as the WolfPack would get, as Cuyahoga starting pitcher, Raquel Ward, did not allow a run over the next two innings. The 'Pack fell 3-2 despite out hitting Cuyahoga 6 to 4.

Ashley Burg was the only WolfPack batter with multiple hits as she was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Ashley Kniesel had the team's other double and Bre Feiler had the team's other RBI. Hannah Jensen received the loss, pitching four innings, striking out one, walking four, scattering two hits and two earned runs. Mackenzie Terrill came into the game in relief and pitched two innings, holding Cuyahoga scoreless.

Game #2: Madison College 7, Rowan College of Burlington County (NJ) 0

Former Cuba City H.S. standout, Emily Wiederholt pitched her first college complete game shutout in Madison College's second game of the day. Wiederholt allowed just five hits and two walks in seven innings of work. She has a game-high eight strikeouts to earn her third win of the season.

Hannah Jensen and Kortni Grenawalt provided multiple hit performances as Jensen went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI while Grenawalt was 2-for-3 with three RBI and a double. Ashley Kniesel, Riley Landenberger, and Emme Hilbert each had an RBI for the 'Pack. The 7-0 win propelled Madison College to 12-5 overall and 8-3 on the spring trip.

Madison College will be in action on their last day in Florida. The WolfPack play two four year schools back-to-back. The 'Pack faces Western Connecticut State University JV at noon CST and Southwestern University JV at 2 p.m. CST at the Minneola Athletic Complex in Minneola, FL.
