In the first game of the day, both teams traded runs in the first inning and the game remained tied until the bottom of the third innings. In the third, Heartland exploded for five runs on four hits. The score remained at 6-1 until the top of the fifth when the WolfPack answered with two additional runs. Heartland then answered in the bottom half of the inning with three more runs to put the game out of reach at 9-3.
Three Madison College pitchers appeared in the game including
Hannah Jensen,
Emily Wiederholt and
Hannah Wienen. Jensen pitched four and a third and received the loss as she scattered nine hits, gave up eight earned runs and walked three before turning it over to
Emily Wiederholt. Wiederholt went a full inning, giving up just two hits while teammate and fellow first year pitcher,
Hannah Wienen, pitched two and third, giving up just one hit.
WolfPack batters managed just five hits and
Ashley Burg, freshman from Slinger H.S., accounted for two, as she was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Hannah Jensen,
Ashley Kniesel and
Bailey Kratt posted the other three WolfPack hits. Kratt also had two stolen bases in the loss.
In the second game of the day, Madison College plays Marshalltown Community College at 2:30 PM CST in Clermont, FL.
