LEESBURG, FL. - WolfPack softball beat a pair of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Divison III schools on their first day of the Florida spring trip. Madison College beat Niagara County Community College, from New York, 9-1, in five innings, in the first game and then beat Monroe Community College, also from NY, 8-7, in seven innings.
Game #1: Madison College 9, Niagara County Community College 1
In the first game of the 2017 Florida spring softball trip, the WolfPack led 3-1 after one inning complete with run scoring singles by
Hannah Jensen and Katelin Gibertson. Madison College then scored two runs in three of the next four innings to win by run-rule in five innings, 9-1.
Madison College tallied eight hits on the game with
Brooke Heck and
Claire Brzenk each had two hits while teammates
Brenna Seeber and
Hannah Jensen each had multiple RBIs. Seeber had three and Jensen had two.
Hannah Jensen also earned the win as she pitched five innings, surrendering one run, two hits, walking one and striking out seven. With the win, the WolfPack moved to 5-2 on the season and 1-0 on the spring trip.
Game #2: Madison College 8, Monroe Community College 7
The second game of the first day was a back-and-forth game that saw 20 hits between the two teams. Monroe got on the board first with three runs in the opening inning. The Pack' answered win a run of their own in the second inning before Monroe answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Madison College tied the game in the third inning as they scored three runs to knot the game at 4-4. Monroe took the lead back, 6-5, in the fourth before Madison College took the lead for good with three runs in the top of the sixth.
Emily Wiederholt, from Cuba City H.S., earned her second win of her college career by pitching three innings, surrendering just one run and four hits while striking out four.
Claire Brzenk, Breena Seeber and
Ashley Burg each recorded two hits and seven WolfPack batters had RBIs in the win. Brzenk had three stolen bases to go with her two hits. Katelin Gibertson had a home run with four WolfPack players had doubles as well.
Madison College improved to 2-0 and will face Delta College (MI) and Century College (MN) on Friday.
