YOUNG MAN'S GAME: Sophomore guard drops 38 in defeat of Rochester

Fifth-highest point total in program history powers WolfPack to snap brief losing streak

ROCHESTER, MINN. - His first shot attempt of the night was a three-pointer and it went in, and for the rest of the night Tyree Young was in an offensive zone. The sophomore guard scored a career-high 38 points to lead the Madison College men's basketball team to an 87-76 victory at Rochester Community & Technical College on Tuesday night. Young's performance marks the fifth-highest individual scoring total for a game in WolfPack history. The win snapped a short two-game losing streak for the 'Pack this season, as well as against the Yellowjackets.

Tyree Young scored 18 of his game-high 38 points in the first half, and finished an efficient 14-for-21 from the field, including 3-for-5 from long range. The former Nicolet HS standout was a perfect 7-for-7 at the charity stripe en route to bypassing his previous career-high of 27 points, set one game prior against Columbus State (OH) Community College. Young's statline also featured five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Madison College has had two 30-point-or-better performances this season, with freshman Anthony Johnson tallying 33 two games ago.



Speaking of career-high scoring totals, freshman guard Nathaniel Buss set his with 18 points in his first career start. The Verona, Wisconsin, native went 7-for-11 overall with a three-pointer, while also making all three of this free throw attempts. Buss had three rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Second year guard Jezzriah Burton reached 11 points after coming off the bench for the first time this season. Freshmen Sean Suchomel and Anthony Johnson tied for team-high honors with six rebounds, with Suchomel also leading the way with four assists.

Madison College trailed for most of the first half, with the deficit reaching as high as eight points and standing at 40-37 at the break. The second half, however, opened with an 11-0 run for the WolfPack, jump started by back-to-back jumpers for Young. Another 11-2 surge gave the 'Pack its first double-digit lead of the night, before Young took over with 14 straight points over an eight minute stretch. Madison College scored nine of the final 13 points of the game to put it away for good.

As a team, the WolfPack made 14-of-16 (87.5%) free throw attempts and shot 50% (34-68) from the floor. Rochester (3-1), which suffered its first loss of the season, made 39.7% (23-58) of its shot attempts and was 23-for-35 (65.7%) at the line. The visitors dominated the painted area with a 50-30 margin in points in the paint.

Madison College (4-3) is off for the Thanksgiving break and returns to action with a road game against in-state and NJCAA Division II foe Bryant & Stratton College (3-4). The WolfPack topped the Bobcats by three, 88-85, in their first ever meeting last season. The second-year program plays its home games at Mount Mary University's Bloechl Recreation Center in Milwaukee. Tip off is at 7:30 p.m.
