Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

WolfPack bow out of national tournament with 2-1 loss to Nassau

In a cold, windy, and snowy game, the WolfPack lose and end their tournament run

The Madison College women's soccer team played tough despite the awful conditions in Dryden, New York, on day two of the 2017 NJCAA Division III National Championship. After trailing 2-0 in the first half, the WolfPack scored a goal in the second half before falling 2-1 to Nassau (NY) Community College to bow out of the tournament.

The weather for the game was absolutely brutal, with temperatures hovering around 20 degrees, winds upwards of 25 mph, and snow falling. At the end of the 16', Nassau's Haley Schmidt found the back of the net to put the Lions on the scoreboard first. About twenty minutes later (35:58), the Lions' Kayla Murphy put Nassau up by two goals. The tough conditions were made even tougher as the WolfPack took a two goal deficit into the half

The WolfPack answered just four minutes into the second half as Peyton Trapino scored an unassisted goal on a long shot. The scoring strike marked the first and only goal scored by Madison College at the national tournament. Trapino, a DeForest, Wisconsin, native, finished tied for second on the team with 12 goals on the year.

The WolfPack struggled to generate more offense as they had only two shots on goal to Nassau's 11 shots. Second year WolfPack goalie Brandie Gospodarek left the game with an injury in the first half and was replaced by freshman Madison Krohn. Gospodarek, a native of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, recorded six saves,  while Krohn had three for the game.

The second loss of the tournament eliminated the WolfPack from their program's first national tournament. The team ended their successful season with a 15-3-2 overall record. Trapino received all-tournament honors.
