MADISON, WISC. - For the 19th consecutive match, the Madison College volleyball team defeated Triton College in a three-set sweep to further its one-sided dominance in the series between North Central Community College Conference foes. Even though the WolfPack pushed their consecutive sets won streak versus the NJCAA Division II Trojans to 57 on Tuesday at
H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium, the victory was not without some dramatic and intense moments as the home team pulled off a 25-23, 25-11, and 25-19 win. The victory comes in the penultimate home match, and also keeps the 'Pack one game behind #1 Harper College in the race for the N4C crown.
Trailing 23-22 in the late stages of set 1, Madison College rattled off three straight key points to claim the opening set, finishing with an ace by freshman
Kendra Nicolay. After pulling away for a 14-point win in the second set, the WolfPack used a 4-0 start in the third to create some separation, which they maintained to pick up the sweep. Madison College finished with 45 kills, averaging 15.0 per set and with a .299 attack percentage.
Freshman
Paige Hostetler was the top hitter with ten kills, marking her seventh match with double-digit kills and fifth in the last seven played for the Green Bay, Wisconsin, native. Eight other players registered a kill in the match, with sophomore
Samantha Jacobsen reaching eight - on a team-high .667 attack percentage - and first year
Mariah Capra with six. Driving a majority of the offense was freshman setter
Olivia Darkow, who amassed a season-high 23 assists. The West Bend, Wisconsin, product has five matches with at least 20 assists. Sophomore setter
Keely Brown added 17 assists, as well as two of the WolfPack's five service aces.
