#2 WolfPack stumble at Rock Valley, into Region IV Tournament

Madison College finishes regular season with back-to-back four-set losses on the road

ROCKFORD, ILL. - The Madison College volleyball team will ride a two-match losing streak into the postseason after dropping a second consecutive four-set road contest on Thursday at Rock Valley College. The #2 WolfPack started strong with a 25-13 win in set one, but lost the next three by scores of 25-19, 25-17, and 25-23 to the Golden Eagles. Madison College wraps up the regular season with a 9-3 mark in the North Central Community College Conference and a 20-7 record overall, extending their streak of consecutive seasons with at least 20 wins to 13.

The opening set saw Madison College register 12 kills and two errors on 26 attempts for an attack percentage of .385, however, they finished under a .200 efficiency over the next two sets as they fell behind RVC. For the match, the WolfPack hit .218 and amassed 50 kills for the fifth time this season. Defensively, the 'Pack hung tough thanks to a gritty back row effort that produced 96 digs, the fourth highest total on the year.

Sophomore Megan Corcoran was the lone Madison College hitter with double-digit kills, reaching 16 in the match and hitting at a .255 clip. The Madison, Wisconsin, native also collected 13 digs for her ninth double-double. Middle hitters Lori Sanders and Maria Capra each had eight kills, while Capra, a native of Turtle Lake, Wisconsin, hit at a team-high .318 percentage.

Keely Brown, a sophomore setter, ignited the offense with a career-best 38 assists. It's her second straight 30-assist performance and the third in the last seven matches. The former Sun Prairie HS athlete also had 11 digs, giving her 14 double-doubles in 2017.

Freshmen Maddie Scalissi and Olivia Darkow had 29 and 16 digs, respectively, as the WolfPack saw their 14-match win streak over Rock Valley College come to an end. The Golden Eagles own a 34-24-1 lead in the all-time series.

Madison College has earned the number two seed for the upcoming NJCAA Region IV Division III Tournament, and thus will receive a bye through the quarterfinals. The WolfPack, winners of four Region IV titles, will open postseason play Saturday, October 28 in one of two semifinal matches held at Elgin Community College in Elgin, Illinois. The official tournament seedings, matchups, and match times will be announced this week.
