WolfPack blow through Stormers in 11-0 Region IV Quarterfinal win

Nine different players score for Madison College, which hosts Harper in Saturday semifinal

MADISON, WISC. - It was an entire team effort for the Madison College women's soccer team as they dismantled Milwaukee Area Technical College, 11-0, in a NJCAA Region IV Division III Quarterfinal match Tuesday night at Irwin A. Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East. Nine different players scored for the #2-seeded WolfPack, which earlier in the day fell out of the top ten in the latest NJCAA Division III Poll and are now receiving votes. The 'Pack, winners of all five head-to-head meetings with the in-state rival and #7-seed Stormers, advance to Saturday's Region IV Semifinal to face Harper College.

In fitting fashion for the 2017 season, the talented first-year tandem of DeForest, Wisconsin, natives worked their magic to give the WolfPack an early and sizable lead. Britt Schumann and Peyton Trapino worked together to score the first three goals of the match, and four of the team's eight first half goals. The duo opened with Trapino setting up Schumann for a 7' goal, before flipping roles in the 9' and 10' to build a 3-0 lead. After goals by Sarah Hamilton and Tianna Sackett within a minute of each other, the former high school teammates combined for one more scoring streak as Schumann match Trapino with her second goal, and giving both players a pair of assists.

Before the half ended, Tierra Sackett and Molly Barry added their names to the scoring list in the 43' and 44', respectively. The goal for Barry, a former Madison Memorial HS athlete, is the first of her career and gave the WolfPack an eight-goal advantage at the break.

The second half was much the same with Madison College adding three more goals from three different players. Sophomore Olivia Zaleski tallied her goal in the 52', while Edgerton, Wisconsin, natives Aja Gurney and Yisel Diaz-Salgado both found the back of the net within four minutes of each other later in the half. Both sophomores, Gurney registered her second goal in the last 11 days against MATC-Milwaukee and Diaz-Salgado capped the evening with the first goal of her career.

Madison College outshot the Stormers 43-0 overall and 26-0 in shots on goal, the largest differentials in those categories for a single match this season and the highest single match shot total this fall. The home team also boasted an 11-0 edge in corner kicks. Thanks to the defensive efforts in front of her, goalkeeper Brandie Gospodarek earned her seven shutout of the season and her second career postseason clean sheet.

Tuesday's result also continued a lopsided trend in the all-time series between the two in-state rivals, with the WolfPack improving to 5-0 over the last two seasons and a scoring differential of 58-0 against Milwaukee Area Technical College (2-12).

Up Next:

Madison College (12-1-2) will continue postseason play at home on Saturday, October 21 with a Region IV Semifinal match against Harper College (12-6). The #3-seeded Hawks eliminated #6-seed Triton College by an 8-1 final on Tuesday to advance. The WolfPack swept the regular season series with Harper, winning by scores of 2-1 and 3-1, and now own a 4-3-1 advantage in the all-time series. Kickoff is at noon at the Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Sports Complex, with the winner moving on to play either #1-seed Joliet Junior College or #5-seed College of DuPage in the Region IV Championship on Tuesday, October  24.
