NEW ALL-TIME LEADER: Schumann hat trick breaks scoring record in #4 WolfPack rout

Freshman sets new mark in impressive fashion as Madison College preps for N4C showdown

MADISON, WISC. - It's no surprise that the four-year-old Madison College women's soccer program has its third all-time leader in goals scored, but what is shocking the very short amount of time it took the new scoring champ to do it. Freshman Britt Schumann scored three goals as part of the #4 WolfPack's 6-0 win over Elgin Community College at Irwin A. & Robert D. Goodman Pitch-East on Monday, breaking the program's career goals record in the process.

Already leading 1-0, Schumann took over the contest for a six-minute stretch in the first half, scoring three consecutive goals. The first tally came in the 24' and moved the former DeForest Area HS athlete into sole possession of first on the program's career goals list, surpassing Arianna Viscarra's ('16) 19 goals scored in 31 games played. For Schumann, she needed just 12 matches in her first season of collegiate soccer to make it happen, averaging 1.8 goals per match. Before the celebration had even subsided, Schumann added career goal number 21 just 40 later. And by the 29', the freshman phenom had a hat trick. Fittingly, all three goals were assisted by longtime friend and fellow DeForest, Wisconsin, native, Peyton Trapino, whose 17 assists broke the single season record for assists held by Katie Travis ('16) with 14.

Both Schumann and Trapino finished the match with seven points. After the three consecutive assists, Trapino, a two-sport athlete at Madison College, notched back-to-back goals to reach nine for the season. The first came off a Tierra Sackett assist and capped the WolfPack's five-goal first half in the 35'. She punched the second scoring strike in during the 58' to open the second half scoring.

The first goal of the game came off the foot of Erin True, as the former Monona Grove HS standout scored her third goal in the last two games. The last two goals were credited to the Sackett sisters. Tianna Sackett's unassisted goal occurred in the 67', while Tierra's conversion off a Schumann pass finished the Madison College scoring run in the 75'.

In winning their fifth straight match as part of a 12-match unbeaten streak, the WolfPack completely controlled the soccer ball for the entire match, limiting the Spartans (2-8) to a single shot on goal. It was saved by goalkeeper Brandie Gospodarek en route to her fifth shutout of the season, breaking her own single season record of four set last fall. Madison College finished with 24 total shots and 20 on goal.

The WolfPack is now 3-1 all-time against Elgin, with the wins coming in three consecutive years.
