MADISON, WISC. - To allow 21 points in a single set of volleyball is pretty standard, but to do so in an entire match is downright impressive. That was the case Tuesday at Redsten Gymnasium as the Madison College women's volleyball team swept visiting Triton College (NJCAA DII) by resounding scores of 25-8, 25-5, and 25-8. It's the fewest points allowed in three sets this season by the #2 WolfPack, who extend their match win streak 11 straight and their consecutive sets win streak to 17.
While driving home 34 kills and hitting .462 for the match, Madison College (19-1, 5-0) truly controlled the contest from the baseline, serving up a dozen aces against the Trojans (2-8, 2-4).
Sophomore
Andrea Bauer was at the top of her game, leading the WolfPack with 11 kills and a .611 attack percentage in the North Central Community College Conference battle. Her 11 digs give the 5'8" outside hitter a team-best nine double-doubles.
Keifer Zimmerman had eight kills as the only other Madison College player with more than four, though six other players found their way into the kills column statistically. The Green Bay, Wisconsin, native and Rock Valley College transfer was tied for team-high honors with three aces.
Taylor Genthe and
Samantha Jacobsen also tallied three aces, while freshman
Megan Corcoran had two and
Kaitlin Mooney one.
Mooney topped the list for digs with 12 and Genthe did her part to run the efficient offense with 26 of the team's 30 assists.
The seven-game homestand continues Thursday night with the second #1 vs. #2 matchup of the season for Madison College, only this time the WolfPack enters as the lower ranked team. Undefeated Harper College (18-0, 5-0) won their first 17 matches of the season in three-set sweeps and had their 53-set winning streak snapped Tuesday in a four-set win over the College of DuPage. Madison College owns a 16-9 advantage in the all-time series, including a 6-2 record at H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium, however, the two teams have split their last four meetings. The winner will have an early leg up in the N4C standings as both are without a loss in league competition. Earlier this year the WolfPack downed defending national champion Rochester Community & Technical College in
four sets in a matchup of the
NJCAA Division III's top two ranked teams.
The game is also
Family & Youth Night for Madison College. Area youth (17 & under) will get free admission and one free popcorn at the concession stands simply by wearing their team jersey. In addition, family members of the WolfPack will be honored during the game and will gather after the game to enjoy some refreshments.
First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and available via videocast with
WolfPack TV.
