MADISON, WISC. - For the second time this season, the Madison College women's volleyball team defeated the Clarke (IA) University JV (NAIA Division I) in a three-set sweep. The 25-19, 25-22, and 25-18 win is the eight straight against the Crusaders, and the fourth-consecutive sweep after a pair of non-conference home-and-home series in successive seasons.
Madison College (17-1) started the match slow, hitting at a .176 attack percentage in the opening set. The offense grew more efficient in a hurry as the WolfPack produced percentages of .316 and .286 in sets two and three, respectively. They finished the match with 30 kills off 26 assists, while also producing eight aces. Defensively the 'Pack collected 54 digs and five blocks en route to their ninth consecutive win.
Freshman
Megan Corcoran and sophomore
Andrea Bauer had eight kills a piece to lead the way. Corcoran, a Madison La Follette (WI) HS product, hit a team-best and personal season-best .467. Bauer was right behind at .444, while
TeAnn Harms posted a .438 with seven kills.
Sophomore transfer
Keifer Zimmerman struggled at the net, tallying just four kills off a team-high 20 attack attempts. However, the Green Bay, Wisconsin, native was at her best closer to the baseline, digging out a match-high 13 balls and serving up three aces. Joining Zimmerman with double-digit digs were Bauer with a dozen and
Kaitlin Mooney with ten.
The busy week continues with game three of a seven-match homestand at Redsten Gymnasium on Thursday, September 15 against in-state rival and North Central Community College Conference foe Milwaukee Area Technical College (0-6, 0-4). Madison College has dominated the all-time series by a 35-3 margin, having won 27 straight since a five-set loss in Milwaukee in 2003. First serve is at 6:00 p.m.
