Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

#2 WolfPack blast past pair of NJCAA Top 10 foes

Four-win weekend at Rochester CTC Invite leads into busy week in Madison

ROCHESTER, MINN. - It was an impressive two days in the Land of 10,000 lakes for the Madison College women's volleyball team, picking up four wins and dropping just one set at the Rochester CTC Invitational. The #2 WolfPack improved to 15-1 and extended their winning streak to seven matches with wins over North Dakota State College of Science (NJCAA DII), #4 Central Lakes (MN) College, #6 Rochester (MN) Community & Technical College, and Bismarck State (ND) College. The 'Pack is now 5-0 against opponents ranked in the NJCAA Division III Poll.

Game #1: #2 Madison College 3, North Dakota State College of Science 0

Madison College was pushed to the limit in the first two sets against the Wildcats, then pulled away in commanding fashion to close the door on a 25-23, 26-24, and 25-12 three set sweep to open the invite. In the third and final set, the 'Pack hit at a .500 clip, finishing the match with a .292 attack percentage

No players reached double-digit kills, however, sophomore Andrea Bauer paced the attack with nine kills and a team-best .474 hit percentage. Keifer Zimmerman tallied eight kills and TeAnn Harms had seven. Harms also played big on the net defensively, recording four blocks.

Bauer and Zimmerman tied for the team lead in digs with a baker's dozen each, while Kaitlin Mooney had 12 digs and Megan Corcoran nine. Six different players registered a service ace as the WolfPack kept the NDSCS receive on its toes all match.

Sophomore Taylor Genthe finished with 26 assists.

Game #2: #2 Madison College 3, #4 Central Lakes College-Brainerd 0

In a matchup of two top five teams, Madison College was at the top of it's game on offense and defense as it swept the #4 Raiders 25-18, 25-14, and 25-11.

The WolfPack thwarted the CLC attack with a season-high nine blocks in the match, led by four for TeAnn Harms. Fellow sophomore Natasha Swiggum denied three attacks and Keifer Zimmerman had two rejections.

Offensively, Andrea Bauer paced the Madison College offense for a fourth-straight match, tallying 15 kills and hitting a ridiculous .542. The Mukwonago, Wisconsin, native made it a double-double with a team-leading 14 digs.

Zimmerman, a transfer from Rock Valley College, also had a double-double, her third of the season, posting ten kills and 11 digs.

Kaitlin Mooney had ten digs and Taylor Genthe notched 24 assists.

Game #3: #2 Madison College 3, #6 Rochester CTC 1

The WolfPack dropped their only set of the weekend as they sought a second win this season over last year's national champions and the team that ousted them from the national tournament. And much like their August 28 match in Wisconsin Dells, Madison College picked up the 'W' in four extremely hard-fought sets, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, and 25-22 against #6 Rochester CTC.

Andrea Bauer continued her hot hitting with a season-best 19 kills, three shy of her career high 22 set against the Yellowjackets in last year's national semifinals. The first-team all-conference outside hitter finished with a .529 attack percentage and 27 digs for her eighth double-double of the season.

Sophomore TeAnn Harms had 15 kills and a .407 hit percentage, as well as a team-best four blocks. Keifer Zimmerman registered a dozen kills, but struggled with a .174 percentage.

The Madison College defense was outstanding, posting 109 total digs, the second highest total in a match so far this season. Kaitlin Mooney topped the list with a career-high 32 digs. Megan Corcoran (17) and Zimmerman (16) joined Bauer as the only other players in double-figures.

And speaking of career-best performances, setter Taylor Genthe reached 52 assists, marking the first match with 50 or more for the River Valley (WI) High School product.

Game #4: #2 Madison College 3, Bismark State College 0

Looking to put a bow on another perfect tournament, Madison College breezed through NJCAA Division II Bismark State College, 25-17, 25-17, and 25-14. The WolfPack improved their hit percentage throughout the match, posting a .227 in the opening set, followed by .286 and .429 in sets two and three, respectively.

For the first time this season, Green Bay, Wisconsin, native Keifer Zimmerman was tops in kills for a match, finishing with a season-best 16. The Rock Valley College transfer was successful at a .485 rate. She also collected ten digs for her third straight double-double and fourth in the last five matches.

TeAnn Harms also reached double-figure kills with ten, and joined Megan Corcoran and Natasha Swiggum with two blocks each.

Corcoran, a Madison La Follette HS alum, also had 13 digs and two aces. Defensive specialist Kaitlin Mooney served up a pair of aces and found a team-best 30 digs. Andrea Bauer had 17 digs and eight kills.

Sophomore setter Taylor Genthe finished with 33 assists, giving her 10.4 assists per set over the four matches in Rochester.

Madison College returns to the capital city for a seven-match homestand to finish out the month of September. The WolfPack welcome Joliet Junior College (1-10, 0-2) to Redsten Gymnasium on Tuesday, September 13. The Wolves are on a five-match losing streak and have not beaten Madison College since 2011, a stretch of ten consecutive wins for the 'Pack. First serve is at 6:00 p.m.
