WolfPack dominate Harper with pair of 5-inning wins

Jenalee Wilson one-hitter sets table for DH sweep

MADISON, WISC. - Everything went the way of the Madison College softball team Tuesday in a pair of five inning wins over Harper College at the Goodman Sports Complex. The WolfPack, behind a one-hitter from Jenalee Wilson, won the opener 12-0 before taking the nightcap 16-3, and have now won ten of their last 11 games.

Game #1: Madison College 12, Harper College 0 (5 innings)

Sophomore hurler Jenalee Wilson (10-3) was dominating in game one of the mid-week twin bill. The Portage, Wisconsin, native allowed a single to right field in the second and walk in the third inning. That was it. Wilson turned away five batters with strikeouts for a team-leading total of 51. She has wins in four straight starts.

Meanwhile, the WolfPack offense was just as locked in against Harper College pitching. They opened with three runs on three hits and an error in the first inning, then broke the game open with a five-run second inning. Four of the five hits came as consecutive singles (Samantha Yaeger, Brenna Seeber, Breanna Bollig, and Brooke Heck), while the final hit came as a RBI triple by Cheyenne Holmes.

To put the game out of reach, Madison College scored two runs in each of the third and fourth innings, adding eight more hits for a total of 16 in the game. That is the third highest single game hits total for the WolfPack this season.

Brooke Heck and Cheyenne Holmes both registered two hits, two runs driven in, and another scored. Brenna Seeber, Breanna Bollig, and Kiana Smith all scored two runs to pace the 'Pack.

Game #1: Madison College 16, Harper College 3 (5 innings)

Two hitters dominated the storyline in the closing game, each hitting three double as Madison College continued to pour it on against the Hawks.

After Harper College (1-11, 0-7) used a leadoff walk to scratch across their first run of the day in the first, the WolfPack came out swinging with four hits and four runs to regain control. Jordan Bell drove in two runs with a double to left field, one of a pair of two-baggers hit in the inning.

Brooke Heck doubled in the second as part of a two run frame that was followed by two runs by the visitors, making it 6-3.

The separation came in the home half of the third inning with nine runs on eight hits and two errors. Of the eight hits, three went for extra bases and two were by Bell. The sophomore from Beloit, Wisconsin, set season-highs with three doubles, three runs scored, and three runs driven in.

The final Madison College (19-12, 7-2) run was in the fourth after Heck smacked her third double of the day to plate Breanna Bollig. The Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, native, along with fellow freshman Bailey Kratt, matched Bell with three RBI to lead the offense. B. Bollig had team-high honors with four runs scored and was one of five batters with multiple hits.

Elizabeth Wahl (4-4) and Samantha Yaeger split the pitching work load, with Wahl earning the win. The freshman from Marinette, Wisconsin, allowed two earned runs on four hits with three strikeouts in her 2 2/3 innings. Yaeger's final line was nearly perfect, allowing just one base runner via a walk in her 2 1/3 innings.

Madison College takes to the road this weekend with doubleheader slated for Saturday, April 9 at College of Lake County in Grayslake, Illinois. First pitch is set for noon.
