Extra innings win fuels DH sweep at Kishwaukee

Clutch double by Holmes furthers WolfPack win streak

MALTA, ILL. - Playing away from the Goodman Sports Complex for the first time in over a week, the Madison College softball team picked up a non-conference sweep of two games at Kishwaukee College in Malta, Illinois on Sunday. The WolfPack needed extra innings to take the opener 2-0 before earning a 7-2 decision in the nightcap, pushing their win streak to three games.

Game #1: Madison College 2, Kishwaukee College 0 (8 innings)

Sophomore Jenalee Wilson headlined the pitcher's duel that emerged in game one of the two-game set. The Portage, Wisconsin, erased the first nine batters faced, but found some trouble her second time through the Kougars lineup. After singles by the first two batters to start the bottom of the fourth, Wilson retired each of the next three batters to strand two in scoring position.

The game remained scoreless through seven innings, with the WolfPack offense accounting for only three hits to that point. In extra innings, Madison College found life at the plate. Samantha Yaeger started the eighth by reaching on an error at shortstop, and after Breanna Bollig reached safely with a bunt, the 'Pack had runners on with two outs.

Second year slugger Cheyenne Holmes dug in and roped a two-bagger to center that brought both runners home, putting the WolfPack on top 2-0.

Now pitching with the lead, Jenalee Wilson (16-6) allowed back-to-back, two-out singles before securing the final out on a pop fly to right. In all, Wilson limited the Kougars to just six hits, while striking out six. It's her sixth shutout win of the season.

Of the WolfPack's five total hits, Breanna Bollig led the way with two, extending her hitting streak to ten games. Cheyenne Holmes recorded two RBI as the game's offensive hero, marking the 15th game this season the sophomore has recorded multiple runs driven in.

Game #2: Madison College 7, Kishwaukee College 2

Game two provided a bit more offensive firepower, especially coming out of the WolfPack dugout. The visitors staked themselves to a 1-0 lead in the first, then created separation with a four-run second inning. Brenna Seeber ripped a two-RBI single to right, scoring Jordan Bell and Danielle Savignac. Seeber would score on a triple to center by Breanna Bollig, who eventually touched home on an error by the second baseman for a 5-0 lead.

Kishwaukee College (12-31-1) kept the game within arms reach for a little bit, scoring a run in each of the third and fourth innings against Elizabeth Wahl.

Still leading 5-2 in the sixth, the 'Pack made good use of three Kougars errors to tack on two insurance runs.

Elizabeth Wahl (5-4) picked up the win, going 3 2/3 innings with four hits and two runs allowed. The freshman from Marinette, Wisconsin, walked three and struck out three to earn her first win five starts. Freshman Hannah Jensen tossed the final 3 1/3 to nab her first save of the season, giving up a hit and a walk while striking out three.

Amassing just six hits, the WolfPack were paced by Brenna Seeber and Bailey Kratt's two hit outings. Seeber, a freshman from Watertown, Wisconsin, also had two runs scored and two driven in.

Madison College (31-19) plays for a fifth straight day on Monday when it puts a three-game win streak on the line at South Suburban College (29-11). First pitch in South Holland, Illinois, is at 3:00 p.m.
