ROSEMONT, ILL. - In their final game at the N4C Dome Jamboree, the Madison College softball team kept momentum in their dugout with a 10-2 defeat of league foe Harper College. The win extends the WolfPack's win streak to four games and pushed their tournament run differential to a +28 over six games.
The Hawks had little chance as righthander Jenalee Wilson (4-1) was dominant in the circle. The Portage H.S. product struck out a career-high 13 batters, while allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings.Playing as the visitors, Madison College struck first with four runs on four hits in the opening half inning.
Brenna Seeber and
Cheyenne Holmes opened with singles, and then both scored on a error by the Hawks first baseman. A few batters later
Samantha Yaeger stepped to the plate with the bases loaded and promptly brought in
Brooke Heck on a fielder's choice.
Kiana Smith followed with a two-RBI single to right for a 4-0 lead.
It remained that way until the sixth inning when the 'Pack tacked on six more runs and five more hits to make it 10-0.
Lindsey Bollig's single to center scored the first run, while Heck's single to right in the next at bat brought in two more.
Brianna Smith made it 9-0 on a two-RBI double to left field, and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly for the final run.
The trio of Seeber, Holmes, and B. Smith each had two hits as the WolfPack amassed a dozen in the game. Freshman
Brooke Heck drove in a season-high four runs and scored two. The Rubicon, Wisconsin, native finished the Jamboree hitting .667 (8-for-12) with seven runs scored and seven more driven in. She had three extra base hits and only struck out once.
Madison College (5-4, 4-1) resumes play with a ten-day, 13-game trip to Florida, with games played in Leesburg and Clermont. The WolfPack opens play Thursday, March 10 with a doubleheader against Owens Community College (OH) and Kalamazoo Valley Community College (MI) at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., respectively.
