The WolfPack Softball team lost their first two games of their spring trip to fellow National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Divison II teams today in Leesburg, FL. Madison College struggled defensively in their first outdoor games of the season. and the 'Pack fell 4-2 to Owens Community College (OH) and 15-6 to Kalamazoo Valley Community College (MI).
vs. Owens Community College - 4-2 LossIn their first game of the 2016 spring trip the WolfPack fell behind early as Owens jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning on a Madison College outfield error. The WolfPack responded with a bases loaded walk to score one run in the second inning. Owens then scored one run in the third and it was 4-1 until
Summer Zachow singled to left field to score another run in the sixth. That was as close as the 'Pack would get as they fell 4-2 despite outhitting Owens six to three. Madison College unfortunatley committed five errors to Owens two.Â
Breanna Seeber was the only player with multiple hits on both teams. She was 2-for-3 with an RBI and double. Four other players had a hit while
Bailey Kratt posted the team's only stolen base.
First year Watertown standout,
Hannah Jensen, had a solid outing by scattering four hits, striking out one and surrending no earned runs in six innings of work.
vs. Kalamazoo Valley Communtiy College - 15-6 LossMadison College played Kalamazoo Valley Community College in the second game of the day. The WolfPack found themselves trailing the Cougars 8-0 after four innings, in threat of getting run-ruled when Madison College's bats came alive to the tune of five runs in the bottom of the fourth, four of which came from
Cheyenne Holmes' two-out, grandslam. The other run was scored by a Breanna Seeber single that scored
Meredith Holt. Madison College would score another run in the bottom of the fifth inning to close to within two runs. Unfortunately, the Cougars put the game away in the sixth as they exploded for seven runs and won by run-rule, 15-6. The Cougars outhit the WolfPack 12 to 10 and the 'Pack struggled fielding by committing nine errors to the Cougars two.Â
Brenna Seeber,
Cheyenne Holmes and Brook Heck all had two hits. Holmes had a game high four RBIs on her fourth inning home run blast.
Bailey Kratt hit a double and
Brenna Seeber had an RBI.
Jenalee Wilson received the loss as she allowed 10 hits and seven earned runs in five and one third innings of work. Wilson also struck out four batters. Elizabath Wahl pitched the final two-thirds of the sixth inning, scattering two hits and not allowing an earned run.
Madison College's spring trip does not get any easier tomorrow when they play NJCAA Division I, Marshalltown Community College, at 11:00 a.m. eastern. The WolfPack were beat by Marshalltown back on February 26 in Rochester, MN, 14-2. Follow Madison College Softball on:
