The Madison College softball team got off to a great start in the DCTC Blue Knight Crossover Tournament Friday afternoon with big 13-3 and 11-0 wins over the Lake Region State College (ND) Royals, before overcoming a huge deficit to defeat the host Dakota County Technical and Community College Blue Knights 16-12.

Playing as the home team in the neutral site game in Rosemount, MN, the WolfPack scored eight runs in their first half of the first inning on nine singles on their way to the overwhelming win. The WolfPack scored four runs in the third, and one more in fourth, and belted out 16 hits in the 13-3 affair.

Both
Brenna Seeber and
Breanna Bollig finished with three hits in the game, as Seeber went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while
Breanna Bollig ended the game 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a RBI. All six of the duo's hits went for singles, but
Cheyenne Holmes,
Lindsey Bollig, and
Jordan Bell all added to the fireworks with doubles. Besides
Lindsey Bollig who finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored and Holmes who batted 2-for-4 with two runs scored,
Brooke Heck also added two hits in the game.

Starting pitcher
Jenalee Wilson improved to 8-3 on the year as she went the distance for the victory. She gave up five hits while surrendering only one earned run in the five inning game.

The WolfPack's second game against Lake Region State even ended more lopsided as the WolfPack scored two, one, two, and six runs in the last four innings to defeat the Royals in six innings. The team only had nine hits in the 11-0 game, but they were aided by eight walks, a sacrifice fly, a sacrifice hit, and four Lake Region State errors.
Brooke Heck and
Taylor O'Leksy finished the day with two hits each, as Heck went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while O'Leksy finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Both of Heck's hits went for doubles, and
Lindsey Bollig joined her with a double of her own.

Elizabeth Wahl shook off two consecutive losses to improve to 2-3 on the year. In six innings, Wahl only gave up five hits and three walks while striking out four.

In their third game of the day and their final in the DCTC Blue Knight Crossover Tournament, the WolfPack got off to a rough start as they were down 9-1 after two innings. The WolfPack got on the board with a run in the top of the first, but Dakota County came roaring back with seven runs in the first and two in the second for the big lead. Madison slowly started a comeback with two, three, and four runs in the next three innings. Dakota County did score a run in both the fourth and fifth innings, but the WolfPack cut the deficit down from 9-1 after two innings to 10-11 after five innings. Madison took a 12-11 lead to start the seventh, but Dakota County tied the game at 12-12 with a solo run in the bottom of the frame. The WolfPack then took full advantage of the international tiebreaker with four runs in top of the eight to take a commanding 16-12 lead. Â
Elizabeth Wahl, who replaced the WolfPack starter after two innings, came in and shutdown the Blue Knights to preserve the 16-12 win and pick up her second victory of the day.

Cheyenne Holmes and
Brooke Heck both had huge days at the dish, as the duo combined for 10 of Madison's 20 hits. In total, the two teams combined for 33 hits and 28 runs in the eight inning game. Holmes also led the team with six RBI, two of her five hits landed for doubles, and she also scored a run. Heck also recorded two doubles in her 5-for-6 day to go along with four runs scored and two RBI. Heck's four runs scored tied her with
Breanna Bollig for the team lead. Besides her four runs,
Breanna Bollig was one of four players to record two hits, as she finished 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Joining
Breanna Bollig with two hits were
Brenna Seeber,
Bailey Kratt, and
Elizabeth Wahl. Wahl also recorded a double and scored three times.

Hannah Jensen started the game on the mound for the WolfPack, but only lasted two innings.
Elizabeth Wahl relieved her and pitched the next six innings for the win to improve to 3-3 on the season. Win number two of the day saw her scatter six hits and surrender two earned runs in a solid six innings.

The 14-11 Madison College softball team now travels 65 miles southeast for another one day indoor tournament at the Bubble at the UCR Regional Stadium in Rochester, MN. The WolfPack, riding a five-game winning streak, opens the Rochester CTC Invitational with a game against the St. Cloud Technical and Community College Cyclones at 3:00 PM, before playing the tournament host Rochester Community and Technical College Yellowjackets at 5:00 PM.
