Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Offense fizzles in 3rd straight loss to ranked opponent

WolfPack swept in I-94 rivalry series despite two in double figures

MILWAUKEE, WISC. - Taking the floor for the third straight game against a nationally-ranked opponent, the Madison College men's basketball team showed a lot of fight against in-state rival and #10-ranked Milwaukee Area Technical College. The WolfPack eventually lost Saturday by a 89-68 margin, their third consecutive setback after a season-long three-game win streak.

Both teams opened aggressive on the offensive end, putting up a combined 97 points in the first half. Madison College (10-16, 4-8) trimmed an early 13-point deficit down to a one-possession game thanks to an 11-2 run midway through the half. An 8-1 burst by Milwaukee Area Technical College (21-6, 8-4) pushed the Stormers advantage back to double figures as they went to half leading the 'Pack 55-42.

The second half was a different story despite Madison College scoring the first two baskets to cut the differential to nine points. A pair of 8-0 runs by the Stormers put the game well out of reach as the WolfPack shot 43% from the field and made 7-of-15 tries from outside the arc for the game. The home team connected at a blistering 53% clip overall, down from the 59% it shot in the first half. The 'Pack was out-rebounded on the glass 38-26 and committed 20 turnovers that contributed to a 24-13 edge in points off turnovers for MATC-Milwaukee.

Forward Ethan Lurquin surpassed the 20-point mark for the fifth time this season, netting 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting with three 3-pointers. It's the Poynette, Wisconsin, native's highest total in eight games after pumping in 28 against Triton College in mid-January. No other starter scored more than four points. Kristian Zimmerman led the charge off the bench with 18 points, going 8-for-12 with a pair of makes from long range. First-year forward Joel O'Donnell added seven to the 35 points scored by the reserves.

Madison College has two regular season games remaining, both of which will be played at Redsten Gym. The WolfPack welcome Joliet Junior College (20-8, 8-4) to Madison for a 7:30 p.m. tip on Wednesday. The Wolves, who are receiving votes in the NJCAA Division III poll, downed the 'Pack 74-43 last month for their second straight win in the series and will be in search of their 20th win in 25 all-time meetings dating back to 1998-99. Joliet has won four of its last five games.
