It's no secret that Madison College sophomore
Rachel Slaney is having a monster season, and as a result, the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named her the Division III Player of the Week for November 28-December 4 (Week 5). It's the first such honor of the season for the WolfPack and the second in Slaney's career as she received the distinction after leading the WolfPack to the 2016 Region IV Tournament Championship back in February.
The 5'10" All-American averaged a double-double of 24.5 points and 16.0 rebounds, to go along with a dozen total steals and six total assists in two wins for fifth-ranked Madison College. A native of Barneveld, Wisconsin, and a former three-time all-state performer for the Eagles, Slaney matched a career-best 33 points in an 85-62 defeat of Bryant & Stratton College (WI/NJCAA DII). In that game, she shot a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc and was 11-of-13 at the free throw line, while also grabbing 15 rebounds. Slaney then followed it up with a 16-point, 17-rebound effort that fell one board short of matching a career-best.
Those numbers also earned Slaney her second Region IV co-Player of the Week accolade this season.
Through nine games, Slaney is fourth in the country in scoring at 24.9 points per game, and ranks in the top three for free throws made (9.4) and attempted (12.0). Defensively, she is seventh nationally in steals at 4.3 a contest.
Slaney and the 8-1 WolfPack are back in action tonight with a non-conference matchup against in-state foe, Western Technical College (2-4). Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. and can be seen live on
