#5 WolfPack women stay perfect, move to 5-0

Slaney nets 61 points over two weekend wins

COON RAPIDS, MINN. - It's not even December and sophomore All-American Rachel Slaney is in mid-season form, leading the Madison College women's basketball team to two wins at the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Tournament over the weekend. The #5 WolfPack opened with an 85-73 victory over the host and #6 Golden Rams on Friday, and followed it up with a 76-66 decision against St. Cloud Technical & Community College on Saturday. For the two games, Slaney averaged 30.5 points and 12 rebounds to push the 'Pack to it's second straight 5-0 start.

Game #1: #5 Madison College 85, #6 Anoka-Ramsey 73

In an early season matchup of top-five ranked teams, Madison College took advantage of some rough shooting by Anoka-Ramsey (0-1) to lead 20-17 after the first quarter. The Rams opened the game 0-for-8 from beyond the arc and finished just 4-for-31. However, an eight-point halftime advantage was trimmed to just one heading into the fourth quarter before the WolfPack finished on a 25-14 kick for the win, their second straight and fourth in 11 all-time meetings against the Golden Rams.

Madison College finished an impressive 58.6% from the floor (34-58) and made all three of the attempts from long distance. The 'Pack also owned sizable advantages in points in the paint (58-44) and fast break points (28-16).

Forward Rachel Slaney finished with a career-high 33 points on 13-of-17 shooting. The Barneveld, Wisconsin, native was also 7-for-10 at the free throw line and completed her first double-double of the season with 16 rebounds.

Freshmen Peyton Trapino and Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven pitched in with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Trapino missed just one shot on the day for her third double-digit scoring performance of the season, while also dishing out a team-high five assists. Udelhoven made both of her attempts from outside the arc for her fourth consecutive game scoring ten or more points.

Megan Corcoran had seven points and nine rebounds in helping the WolfPack control the glass, 41-32. The win came despite 29 total turnovers.

The win also came over former Madison College coach and Minnesota-native Jessica Pelzel, who left the program in June and is now an assistant for the Golden Rams.

Game #2: #5 Madison College 76, St. Cloud Technical & Community College 66

The weekend finale saw the WolfPack and Cyclones exchange leads nine times with six ties before Madison College pulled away in the fourth with a 19-11 scoring advantage.

Once again, Rachel Slaney was the most powerful force on the court, tallying 28 points, eight rebounds, and three assists. The sophomore was 10-for-17 overall and 5-of-8 at the line while also making one 3-pointer. Of her eight rebounds, six were on the offensive end.

Fennimore, Wisconsin, native Cheyanne Jo Udelhoven poured in 19 points, hitting half of the WolfPack's four 3-pointers. Fellow first year and Lodi, Wisconsin, native Mackenzie Ripp registered season-highs with ten points and nine rebounds. Peyton Trapino was tops in assists with six.

Madison College will bring their undefeated record back to Redsten Gymnasium for a three-game homestand that opens Tuesday, November 15 against NJCAA DI Sauk Valley Community College (1-3). The WolfPack is 11-19 all-time against the Skyhawks, but did win their most recent meeting, an 83-47 decision last November. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. and can be seen live on MadisonCollege.TV.
