Third straight semifinal loss ends WolfPack women's season

Madison College finishes 2016 with record nine wins

GLEN ELLYN, ILL. - In possession of an opportunity to push the Madison College women's soccer program to a level never seen in just it's third year of existence, the fourth-seeded WolfPack fell just shot in a 2-0 loss to the top-seeded College of DuPage in the NJCAA Region IV Division III semifinals Saturday. The loss is the third this season to the #5 Chaparrals, who have won all nine head-to-head meetings and will advance to the championship match against Rock Valley College.

Madison College, seeking its first goal of the year against COD, struggled to generate offense as they attempted just three shots in the match. The lone attempt in the first half came from sophomore Arianna Viscarra and was denied by the Chaparral's goaltender. In the second half, Viscarra was again turned away, while fellow second year Lindsay Hamilton fired her only shot wide of the goal.

College of DuPage (17-6-3), the regular season champions of the North Central Community College Conference, kept the pressure on the WolfPack defense and goalkeeper Brandie Gospodarek the entire 90-plus minutes. The scoreless game was ended in the 30th minute on an unassisted goal that, and a quick second strike found the back of the net just five minutes later. Both goals came shortly after corner kicks for the Chaparrals.

Gospodarek finished with ten saves, giving the freshman an impressive .889 save percentage on the season, the best in school history.

The WolfPack have lost in the Region IV semifinals in three straight years, and finish 0-7 against the top three teams in the region and conference.

Madison College finishes the season, the first under coach Matt Schwartz, with a 9-8 record. The nine wins stands as the most in program history.
